Experience gifts mogul Jochen Schweizer was at Oschersleben as a guest of YACO Racing powered by Jochen Schweizer. The former stuntman was looking over the shoulder of his son, Max Sandritter during the race debut of the Chevrolet Camaro GT.
2 Three drivers celebrated small milestones at the start of the season. Frank Schmickle and Toni Seiler started their 70th ADAC GT Masters races, while Peter Kox started for the 50th time in the "League of Super Sportscars".
3 The BMW ALPINA B6 GT3's victory in the first round of the 2012 season was the 10th overall victory for the power coupes from the Allgäu region in Bavaria.
4 The phrase of the weekend belonged to Molitor Racing team boss Karsten Molitor, who after seeing the construction of the not particularly space-efficient Young Driver AMR hospitality in the paddock on Thursday afternoon, commented: "Our hospitality unit is brought down from the air and then set up by Alpine climbers."
5 Team Geyer & Weinig EDV Unternehensberatung/Schütz Motorsport achieved a rare feat at Oschersleben by winning a race in their first ADAC GT Masters weekend. With the exception of the very first ADAC GT Masters race in 2007, this was only previously achieved by a-workz/Wieth Racing (Oschersleben 2010) and LIQUI MOLY Team Engstler (Oschersleben 2011).
6 Carrera Cup Champion Nick Tandy, who won the second race in Oschersleben alongside Christian Engelhaft, became the 55th driver to add his name to the list of winners in the ADAC GT Masters.
7 After a trip into the tyre wall during Qualifying by Gerhard Tweraser in the Lamborghini Gallardo LP600+, Team Rhino's Leipert Motorsport were on a night shift. By 7.30am on Saturday morning, Ingo Leipert's diligent mechanics had repaired the car, so that the Gallardo was able to start in the first race
8 2011 ADAC GT Masters race winner Dominik Farnbacker is acting as team manager for his father's Farnbacher ESET Racing team this year. Farnbacher has surrendered his place in the Ferrari 458 Italia GT3 to his brother Mario, and will be at the start of the FIA World Endurance Championship as well as being a brand new Viper works driver in the American Le Mans series with the new generation of Viper, which is making its race debut in the USA during summer.
9 Numerous ADAC GT Masters teams used a test day on the Wednesday before the first race as a dress rehearsal for the season opener.
10 A strange incident took place during the test day for YACO Racing powered by Jochen Schweizer: When the team started the powerful 8 litre V8 engine of the new Chevrolet Camaro GT in the pits, the ceiling lights in the pit toilets fell and landed in the toilet bowl.
11 Corvette driver Diego Alessi was wandering through the paddock in Oschersleben on Wednesday looking a bit lost. He was lost because his Callaway Competition Team were not taking part in the test, and only arrived on Wednesday evening. "I don't really know what I'm doing today", commented Alessi, somewhat perplexed. This didn't stop the Italian from being in the paddock once again on Thursday, when no running was scheduled.
12 There were many small eyes looking at ADAC GT Masters race director Ralf Fuß at the driver's meeting on Friday morning. The time on the clock was a little surprising, but the driver's meeting took place at 7.15am.
13 The group picture at the start of the 2012 ADAC GT Masters season was not successful until the second attempt. During the first attempt on Saturday morning, the 82 ADAC GT Masters drivers were greeted by rain and snow showers and it was not until 24 hours later, that the sun appeared.
