Poulsen cruises to victory in amateurs: Fourth win of season for the Aston Martin man

Kristian Poulsen (Young Driver AMR) in the Aston Martin V12 Vantage drove a start-to-finish victory in the amateur classification to further chip away at the championship lead held by Porsche 911 driver Swen Dolenc (FACH AUTO TECH). The Dane closed the gap by seven points, and with three races still to go, finds himself just 17 points behind the current leader.

The number 33 Aston Martin led the amateurs from the first to the last lap. Poulsen stayed ahead of Dolenc and Corvette driver Remo Lips (Callaway Competition) right from the start. A spin by Dolenc following a contact with Kenneth Heyer gave Poulsen additional breathing space. Shortly before the half-time pit stop, René Bourdeaux (Team GT3 Kasko) in one Porsche 911 edged ahead of Andrina Gugger (FACH AUTO TECH) in another.

After the driver changeover, Nygaard then sealed the amateur win for Poulsen. Martin Ragginger put in some sterling work in the second stint to peg back René Bourdeaux and ensure second place for co-driver Swen Dolenc. Carsten Tilke (Prosperia uhc speed) drove his Audi R8 LMS ultra to fourth ahead of Czech Jan Stovicek (HEICO GRAVITY CHAROUZ) in a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3.

Despite the victory, Poulsen was not particularly pleased with his race: "I wasn't totally happy with the car, and my race was anything but great. After qualifying, we made a few changes to the car which - from my perspective at least - weren't all that productive."

Swen Dolenc was not dissatisfied with second place, but also believed he had been in with a chance of victory: "Heyer spun me round, and immediately after that, I couldn't get into first gear. That cost me 13 seconds and a possible win in the amateur stakes today."

René Bourdeaux was pleased with one of his best results of the season: "My race was brilliant. I started from P27 and moved up the field to finish 19th, so I'm very happy with that. The points for third place are very important today, because this brings me closer to my target of finishing the season in fourth place."
