ADAC GT Masters·1.4.2012

Quotes from the paddock after Race 1: A messy race for us from the start

Carsten Tilke (Prosperia uhc speed-Audi R8 LMS ultra), P16:

"Our decision to start on slicks today was the right one. The first few laps were difficult, but there was a clear dry line after three or four laps. Christian Abt then drove a very good race to the finish."

Johannes Stuck (Young Driver AMR-Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3), retired:

"We had an electrical problem after the pit stop as the engine would not start. Up until then, things were going well but the start was very messy. At the start, I was level with the pit entrance, which meant that I was already 10-15 seconds behind before the race had even started."

Fredrik Lestrup (WestCoast Racing-BMW Z4 GT3), P14:

"We are quite happy with our result. After we had an accident during testing on Wednesday, we didn't want to take any risks and started the race on wet weather tyres. Then I made contact with one of the Porsche cars and ended up in the gravel. If you subtract the time lost from the extra stop and my error, we see that we would have been right up there. And we can see from the result of the Schubert Team that our BMW Z4 can fight for victory."

Uwe Geipel (Team boss for YACO Racing powered by Jochen Schweizer):

"Unfortunately, the car of Max Sandritter and Philip Geipel retired with wheel bearing damage, but overall, we're not too dissatisfied. We took extra care in the race and started on wet weather tyres to not take any risks during the first race weekend. The car has enormous potential, and now it is up to us to maximise this potential. We still have work to do, especially in regards to the traction control and power steering. The new Yokohama tyres work really well, we're very excited about them."

Christopher Mies (#21 Prosperia uhc speed Audi R8 LMS ultra):

"You have to look at the collision between Christer and Sebastian Asch at Turn 1 as a racing incident. However, we got a puncture from this and had to pit. The steering wheel was damaged by the contact and I had to drive with the steering wheel upright in the "Triple". Generally, I have the impression that both the championship and the competition will be a lot stronger this year."

Alexandros Margaritis (#10 SCHÖNER WOHNEN Polarweiss-Mercedes Benz SLS AMG GT3), P24:

"Our race was ruined from the very start. Even before the start of the race, we were facing a penalty as our tyres were not fitted before the three minute warning. Of course, this gave us no chance of a good result, as you have no chance if you're 50 seconds behind the rest of the field. Our tyre choice was wrong too, it would have been a better decision to start on slicks."

Toni Seiler (#18 Callaway Competition-Corvette Z06-R GT3), P22:

"Our race was ok, there were no incidents as such, and we did well over the race distance. Our Corvette is brand new and ran for the first time on Friday, so we rolled the dice and started on slicks when wet weather tyres would have probably been better."

Frank Schmickler (#17 Callaway Competition-Corvette Z06-R GT3), P27:

"I'm learning!"

Swen Dolenc (#15 FACH AUTO TECH-Porsche 911 GT3-R), P19:

"In the end, we started the race today on the wrong strategy. Our radar suggested it would rain, so we started on wet weather tyres. If you subtract the time from the additional stop, we were pretty strong. We have a good pace and I'm learning a lot from my new team mate Martin Ragginger. Since working together with Martin, I've gained a lot of speed."

Otto Klohs (#16 FACH AUTO TECH-Porsche 911 GT3-R), P30:

"The race was mixed, we start on wet weather tyres and needed an extra stop as a result. Our driver changes weren't the best too. In the second half of the race we had to fight, but the tyre wear was very high, a problem that a lot of the Porsche teams encountered in the last few laps."
