ADAC GT Masters·20.4.2012

Strong return for the Ford GT: The iconic US Sports Car secured a good result at the start of the season.

At the start of the ADAC GT Masters season at the Oschersleben Motorsport Arena, the Ford GT announced its return to the "League of Super Sports Cars" in impressive fashion. After a two year hiatus, the Lambda Performance team, using the iconic US sports car in their first complete season in the ADAC GT Masters, impressed in the very first race: "The first weekend was not easy as we were unable to do much testing before the start of the season. We didn't do so well in Qualifying and weren't in the hunt for the top positions on the grid. We had some luck in the race, but with a better starting position, maybe a better result would have been possible", said Krohn after their fight through the field from 16th on the grid to a fourth placed finish.

The Lambda Performance developed Ford GT for 2012 is already familiar to Krohn after a test run last year. This year, the Ford drivers in the GT will change gears for the first time using paddles on the steering wheel, as well as having traction control to reduce wheel spin on the rear axle. "The Ford GT is a good race car", said Krohn about the US car with a 5 litre V8 engine. "The Ford doesn't have as many electronic gadgets as the other GT3 cars and is still a driver's car, but it is still relatively easy to set up. This suits my driving style perfectly and I feel very comfortable in the Ford. The paddle shift gearbox makes driving a little easier as you can keep your hands on the wheel while in the corners. The traction control helps us on a drying track, as we saw in the first race or at the end of the race when the tyre performance isn't fully there.

Krohn watched the ADAC GT Masters in the past when he competed in the ATS Formula 3 Cup, which previously ran as part of the ADAC Masters weekend. "I was a bit taken aback in Oschersleben at how strong the championship is now. There are lots of good drivers and a few strong driver pairings. I was quite surprised at how tough the competition is."

At the next race in Zandvoort, Krohn/Verdonck and the Lambda Performance Ford GT will be hoping for more of the same. "We will test again at Zandvoort and we'll be much better prepared. I know the track from racing with the Ford GT last year and I think that the track suits us a little more. In Oschersleben we finished in fourth in the first race despite some problems in practice. I have a very good team mate and we have a strong team in Lambda Performance, and if we have luck on our side, we can be in the top 5."
