ADAC GT Masters: Comments after the race: Reactions from the paddock after the first race at the Lausitzring

Diego Alessi (#2 Callaway Competition, Corvette Z06 GT3), winner: "We had a very special race today. We profited from the mistakes of our opponents and had a pit stop that was pretty good, so good that it enabled us to move well up the field. Our pit strategy was the key to success. We pitted straightaway as soon as the pit stop window opened. Daniel drove really good in the second half of the race. He defended the lead well, as we could see that the BMW was much quicker. At the moment, it looks like we´re enjoying a run of good luck. I hope that it continues until the end of the season."

Daniel Keilwitz (#2 Callaway Competition, Corvette Z06 GT3), winner: "I think that Dominik Baumann in the BMW could´ve gone much quicker than me, had he been able to get by. The brake performance deteriorated quite a bit during the race, and the tyres were past their best. And so, I focused on getting a clean exit from the turns. I had a good scrap with Baumann on the final few laps. We were both lucky to not end up in the gravel bed. We fought hard, but fairly."

Claudia Hürtgen (#19 PIXUM Team Schubert, BMW Z4 GT3), second: "I got away well at the start and moved up the field to P4. My car was very good. I held back, carefully observed the scraps between the leading pair, nursed the tyres and waited for my opportunity. However, then the red flag came out and there was a safety car period and it wasn´t easy to decide on the best tactics in this situation on the day. We´re very happy with second place. Tomorrow, we´re on the front row of the grid – then we´ll try to score some decent points once more."

Dominik Baumann (#19 PIXUM Team Schubert, BMW Z4 GT3), second: "The scrap with Daniel Keilwitz was good and we went at it quite hard. He was quicker at one point, but then I managed to get in front. It was very close and very tense. We´re very, very pleased with second place. It´s good that we´ve done well in Saturday´s race, as, until now, we´ve always achieved the most points on Sunday. We´re in with really good chance tomorrow from second place on the grid."

Martin Ragginger (#8 Tonino powered by Herberth Motorsport, Porsche 911 GT3 R), third: "I think that at the start, Robert (Renauer) was extremely puzzled by what René Rast did – he set off much too soon. It was then difficult to guess what was going to happen. Robert did the right thing in not taking his cue from Rast. It meant losing two positions, but, on the other hand, we had an error-free race and an excellent pit stop. We know from our speed that we can be up there with the front-runners. Tomorrow, we´ll see what kind of points we can secure from pole position. As regards Robert´s chances in the championship, today´s result was excellent."

Robert Renauer (#8 Tonino powered by Herberth Motorsport, Porsche 911 GT3), third: "The start was an absolute disaster due to Rast setting off too early. We simply carried on but didn´t do anything wrong, finishing third."

Mario Farnbacher (#6 Farnbacher Racing, Porsche 911 GT3 R), DNF: "I assumed that René Rast would get a penalty for starting too early and didn´t attack, but, when he wasn´t handed a penalty, I tried to go on the offensive. He didn´t give me any space and finally, I had to choose between running into him or going over the kerbs, so I went over the kerb. The car was badly damaged and we don´t know whether we´ll be able to start on Sunday."

Maximilian Buhk (#10 Polarweiss Racing, Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3), seventh: "Today, we were still running with success ballast from the last race at the Red Bull Ring, so P7 is a good result. We were happier with the car today than yesterday. We´ve got an idea of how to improve setup even more for Sunday´s race and we´re going to try it out in the warm-up tomorrow."

Remo Lips (#17 Callaway Competition, Corvette Z06.R GT3), winner, Gentlemen class: "I tucked in behind Toni Seiler on the opening lap and a little later when Toni ran into problems, I took the lead in the Gentlemen category. I kept out of all the scraps, using the Corvette´s excellent speed. I wasn´t too unhappy about the safety car period as I´d been putting a lot of stress on my tyres up until then. Lennart made sure of the class win at the finish line."

René Bourdeaux (#9 Tonino powered by Herberth Motorsport, Porsche 911 GT3 R), second, Gentlemen class: "The race was excellent as regards the result, but was average in itself. When I saw at the start of the race that Christina Nielsen was a lap down, I perhaps eased off too much and got a penalty after the pit stop. P2 in the Gentlemen category is good, but what was really important was to stay ahead of Christina."

Lennart Marioneck (#17 Callaway Competition, Corvette Z06.R GT3), 13th: "I had a scrap with Nick Tandy in the second half of the race not realising that he was already a lap down. When my team signalled to me what was happening, I then let him go by, but by then had lost time in the scrap. Remo (Lips) did a good job in the first half of the race. Winning the Gentlemen category is absolutely brilliant."
