ADAC GT Masters mourns the loss of Allan Simonsen: Danish racer crashes out during endurance race in France.

The ADAC GT Masters is in mourning for Danish driver Allan Simonsen. The 34-year-old was killed on Saturday afternoon after a tragic accident at the 24 Hours of Le Mans whilst racing an Aston Martin Vantage.

Simonsen competed in this year´s ADAC GT Masters along with Christina Nielsen in a Porsche 911 GT3 R prepared by Farnbacher Racing. The Danish pairing of Nielsen/Simonsen secured victory in the Gentlemen standings at the season-opener at the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben. Simonsen and Nielsen achieved podiums in the Gentlemen category in all four ADAC GT Masters races that they contested together.

Simonsen was equally popular and much valued by both driver colleagues and team bosses alike and found his niche not only as a supremely accomplished GT driver at the wheel of GT sports car but also achieved success in touring cars and in rallies worldwide. This was the seventh time that Simonsen, who lived with his family in Monaco had competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, where he had twice previously finished on the podium in the GT class. Simonsen also secured a podium finish in the ADAC Zurich 24-hour race at the Nürburgring.

Allan Simonsen is survived by his partner of many years, Carina, and baby daughter, Mie-Mai.

The ADAC GT Masters would wish to express heartfelt condolences to Carina, his daughter and family at this difficult time.
