Robert Renauer's title challenge is still very much alive. The Bavarian, whose Porsche 911 GT3 R was second fastest in FP2, just 0.140 seconds behind the session leader, has a 14-point deficit to make up on the current championship leaders. Of the eleven drivers still in with a mathematical chance of taking the ADAC GT Masters title in the grand finale at Hockenheim, Renauer was the fastest. However, the best time of 01:40.415 mins in the last free practice of the 2013 campaign was set by Rahel Frey und Christopher Haase in their Prosperia C Abt Racing Audi R8 LMS ultra.
The Audi outfit still has a stake in proceedings: in its first season since being founded by former ADAC GT Masters champion Christian Abt, it goes into the final race weekend leading the team championship. Prosperia suffered a setback, however, when René Rast spun off track in the Audi he shares with Christopher Mies and collided with the wall inside the Motodrom section. The car had to be withdrawn from the session after only eleven laps.
Third and fourth positions were separated by only seven thousandths of a second as title hopefuls Claudia Hürtgen and Dominik Baumann in a BMW Z4 GT3 finished ahead of rivals Maximilian Buhk and Maximilian Götz in their Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3.
Dominik Schwager and Frank Kechele in a Ford GT set the fifth-fastest time ahead of the Farnbacher Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R driven by local favourite David Jahn from nearby Speyer and Swiss co-driver Jürg Aeberhard.
Meanwhile, the championship battle in the Gentlemen classification continues, with current leader Christina Nielsen partnered by Kuba Giermaziak in a Farnbacher Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R finishing the session in a creditable seventh position overall, ahead of the Audi R8 LMS ultra driven by Christer Jöns and Markus Winkelhock.
Daniel Dobitsch and Aditya Patel (MS RACING) in an Audi R8 LMS ultra and Luca Ludwig partnered by Thomas Jäger in a Polarweiss Racing Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 completed the Top Ten. The Corvette of championship leaders Diego Alessi and Daniel Keilwitz was the eleventh fastest car in the session, 0.630 seconds adrift of Frey and Haase.
