ADAC GT Masters·7.6.2013

Comments after free practice: What the drivers had to say about Friday´s practice in Saxony

Christian Engelhart (#4 Team Geyer & Weinig EDV - Schütz Motorsport, Porsche 911 GT3 R): "In the second session, I put in a perfect lap. I´ve never managed to take the Omega turn better than on this lap, which is why we ended up with today´s best time. We are benefiting greatly here from the 2013 Porsche update which is making itself very noticeable on this track."

Jens Klingmann (#20 PIXUM Team Schubert, BMW Z4 GT3): "So far, so good, but I think we still have the potential to go faster. In the second session, we were fourth. I would have no objection to qualifying three places further forward."

Florian Stoll (MS RACING, Audi R8 LMS ultra): "We´ve made a significant step forward this weekend. We knew that the first two race weekends wouldn´t be easy for us, but we´ve been testing in the meantime and have got to know the Audi better. We´ve not only moved further up the field here, but we´ve also managed to narrow the gap on the competition."

Gerd Beisel (#40 RWT Racing Team, Corvette Z06.R GT3): "The last time I drove at the Sachsenring was 15 years ago, and that was in a single-seater open-wheel car, so obviously, there´s not much comparison. I still need some time to get used to the track, but it´s a lot of fun driving here."

Mario Farnbacher (#6 Farnbacher Racing, Porsche 911 GT3 R): "We´re not satisfied; we have to work very hard to progress forward."

Diego Alessi (#2 Callaway Competition, Corvette Z06.R GT3): "We were working right up to the end of the second session to get the balance right, but we think we´ve now found a setup that ought to be suitable. The Corvette is not an easy car to drive here, which is a big difference from last year. The shoulder of the track is very narrow, so you have to be extremely careful not to go flying off."

Christopher Haase (#26 Prosperia C. Abt Racing, Audi R8 LMS ultra): "Things went well in the first session, but in the afternoon, the track conditions were a bit different, which meant that our setup was no longer quite optimum. We will make a few adjustments before qualifying. I am pleased to be part of the Prosperia squad this weekend; the team is very good and my team-mate Rahel Frey is also very fast."

Christer Jöns (#28 Prosperia C. Abt Racing, Audi R8 LMS ultra): "I´m partnering Markus Winkelhock this weekend and am very pleased to be driving with him. We have worked very well together in the two free practice sessions and have prepared well for qualifying."

Yelmer Buurman (#46 Vita4One Racing Team, BMW Z4 GT3): "This is the first time I´ve driven here, and the track is not at all easy to learn. Yesterday afternoon, I drove four laps of the circuit in Michael Bartels´ hire car, but obviously, there´s no comparison with a racing car. Third-fastest time in free practice isn´t at all bad, and I think we can even go a bit faster."

Frank Kechele (#14 Lambda Performance, Ford GT): "The first free practice session was perfect, but then the second wasn´t quite so good. I think it was because of the tyres, so now we must try to remedy that problem before qualifying."
