ADAC GT Masters·8.6.2013

Comments after the first race: Reactions from the paddock to the first of the weekend's two races at Sachsenring

Christopher Mies (#27 Prosperia C. Abt Racing, Audi R8 LMS ultra), winner: "Although a win is never straightforward in the ADAC GT Masters, today's victory comes at the easier end of the scale. It was very tight at the start, though - I had some trouble with wheel spin and didn't get away particularly well. In the first turn, both the Porsche and I missed the braking point. Consequently, I used the Porsche's braking point to get myself on the right line and it turned out OK. It was important to be out in front from the start, because it enabled me to open up a good margin from the rest of the field. It was different from our victory in the season opener at Oschersleben where we had to fight our way through half the field. Here, we had the luxury of an open track ahead of us."

René Rast (#27 Prosperia C. Abt Racing, Audi R8 LMS ultra), winner: "It wasn't easy as I had a real fight on my hands with tyre degradation. To be on the safe side, I was at full throttle for my entire stint just in case the car's performance tailed off at the end of the race. Luckily, everything went fine."

Christian Engelhart (#4 Team Geyer & Weinig EDV / Schütz Motorsport, Porsche 911 GT3 R), second: "Mies outbraked me on the approach to the first turn. After that, I couldn't keep up with him, as the Audi's pace was too good today. Meanwhile, I was having a hard time keeping the BMW behind me. Our car was absolutely perfect this weekend - we wouldn't have been so quick if the car had not been 100 percent."

Nicolas Armindo (#4 Team Geyer & Weinig EDV / Schütz Motorsport, Porsche 911 GT3 R), second: "Our driver changeover was good and I was also able to get back on the track quickly. After that, the BMW gave me a very tough race; their car was considerably quicker than mine, especially in the middle sector. With this in mind, I always tried to open up a margin between the two of us in the first and last sectors. I have to say the Audi was in a class of its own today."

Marco Seefried (#5 Farnbacher Racing, Porsche 911 GT3 R), P17: "Our race went OK. I was able to make up some ground during my stint and overtake some of our competitors in the Gentleman classification. Alfred Renauer, who currently leads the Gentlemen classification, was too far out in front and I couldn't catch him up."

Max Sandritter (#20 PIXUM Team Schubert, BMW Z4 GT3), third: "I almost went mad sitting behind the Porsche - I tried everything to get past him, but to no avail. They were always quicker on the straights and there was simply no way past in the turns, which is where our BMW has the advantage. Today was primarily about getting the car over the finish line after a run of bad luck in the first four races. All the better that we were able to pick up a good result at the same time."

Jens Klingmann (#20 PIXUM Team Schubert, BMW Z4 GT3), third: "Although our pit stop was very good, I still came back out onto the track behind the Ford. The Ford then came off and I was right up behind the Porsche. I thought: 'I have half an hour to find a way around the Porsche.' Yet I was never close enough to mount an attack. We started third and finished the race in the same position. Tomorrow, we'll be starting from pole, so hopefully it'll be the same outcome."

René Bourdeaux (#9 Tonino powered by Herberth Motorsport, Porsche 911 GT3 R), winner in Gentlemen classification: "That was a great race today. At first, I lost a couple of place and was hit by a Lamborghini that had spun. Luckily, there was no serious damage to the car, so I had to win back all the places that were lost. In the second half of the race, Alfred Renauer drove flawlessly to bring the Porsche home."

Christina Nielsen (#5 Farnbacher Racing, Porsche 911 GT3 R), second in Gentlemen classification: "There was pandemonium on the first lap with a Lamborghini straddling the track. I had to take evasive action, which cost me a couple of positions. We're having problems with our setup here, which still isn't right. Second place in the Gentlemen standings is quite respectable, though. But you can never be totally satisfied if the car isn't perfect."

Toni Seiler (#18 Callaway Competition, Corvette Z06.R GT3), P19, third in Gentlemen classification: "We had yet another good race today - very enjoyable. On the opening lap, an Audi spun in front of me and left a pile of gravel on the track. At first, I thought I had sustained a slow puncture because the car seemed to behave rather strangely over the next couple of laps, but it was just that the gravel had become embedded in the tyres."

Sebastian Asch (#1 MS RACING, Audi R8 LMS ultra), P7: "We're very satisfied with our result; at last we've been able to gain race experience over the full distance. We learnt a lot today that will come in useful tomorrow. We are starting from tenth on tomorrow's grid, but I hope that we can finish in the Top Five."

Diego Alessi (#2 Callaway Competition, Corvette Z06.R GT3) P15: "Our start was good, but not the rest of the race. We're having trouble finding the right setup here."

Sergey Afanasiev (#11 Polarweiss Racing, Mercedes SLS AMG GT3), P8: "We moved up from 18th on the grid to finish tenth, which is a respectable performance. Scoring points is what it's all about, and that's what we've achieved today. I hope that we can manage a similar result tomorrow. It's the first time I've driven on the Sachsenring, and I must say, this is a really special venue."

Maximilian Buhk (#10 Polarweiss Racing, Mercedes Benz SLS AMG GT3), P5: "Finishing fifth in today's race is good, and we're well satisfied. The Sachsenring is obviously not the optimum track for our Mercedes, but today's result has helped move us up the drivers' standings to third."

Niclas Kentenich (#47 Vita4One, BMW Z4 GT3), P21: "The BMW Z4 is still a new experience for me, and we didn't have any opportunity for testing before this weekend. That made things rather difficult for us in free practice and qualifying. But driving this car around the Sachsenring is extremely enjoyable."

Sven Barth (#40 RWT Racing Team, Corvette Z06.R GT3), DNF: "We had a problem with a wheel nut that came off twice. As the locking pin was damaged, we decided to retire from the race for safety reasons."
