Corvette one-two in Gentlemen class : Toni Seiler wins with the support of Jeroen Bleekemolen

Toni Seiler, who already has two amateur championship trophies in his cabinet, celebrated his first win of the 2013 season in the Gentlemen classification at the Nürburgring. The Swiss/Dutch pairing of Seiler and Bleekemolen brought their Corvette GT3 Z06.R home ahead of Callaway Competition team-mates Remo Lips and Lennart Marioneck. The third podium spot was claimed by Christina Nielsen who shares the cockpit of her Farnbacher Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R with professional driver Sean Edwards.

The two yellow Corvettes entered by Callaway Competition dominated the class from the start, with Lips in the lead from Seiler. The order remained unchanged until the end of the first stint. After Seiler handed over to Bleekemolen and Marioneck relieved Lips, the two Corvettes switched places. Bleekemolen overtook ADAC Sports Foundation protégé Marioneck and gradually built up a healthy lead. While the Dutchman was cruising to victory, a close-fought three-way battle raged for the other podium places. Sean Edwards in the Porsche first dislodged Paul Green in his BMW Z4 GT3 from third place and then began to close the gap on Marioneck. The Corvette man held off the challenge, crossing the line in second place with Edwards just 0.3 seconds behind. Green in P4 missed out on the podium party by a similarly tight margin of 0.9 seconds. Fifth place went to René Bourdeaux in the Porsche 911 GT3 R of Tonino powered by Herberth Motorsport.

Toni Seiler was delighted with his 20th amateur victory: "I held back a bit at the start and let Remo Lips have the advantage - I didn't want to take any risks. I then concentrated on saving the tyres for Jeroen, as our plan was to attack in the second stint. Jeroen finished the race off well."

As the campaign reaches its halfway stage, Christina Nielsen's third-place finish moves her up to third place in the standings with a one-point lead over Rene Bourdeaux. "Third place is OK in the circumstances," said the Dane. "We haven't perfected our car yet, and against the Corvettes we had no chance, so P3 was the best we could hope for today."
