Fifth win of season for René Bourdeaux: Porsche driver extends championship lead in Gentlemen classification

A fifth win of the season in the Gentlemen stakes for René Bourdeaux (Tonino powered by Herberth Motorsport) extended his championship lead with just three races remaining. The Porsche 911 GT3 R driver from Munich crossed the finish line at the Slovakia Ring ahead of Remo Lips in a Callaway Competition Corvette and Christina Nielsen in another Porsche 911 GT3 R, but in her case entered by Farnbacher Racing.

Lips led the Gentlemen contenders at the start, followed by Bourdeaux and Nielsen. The order remained unchanged until the mandatory pit stop when Bourdeaux´s co-driver Alfred Renauer emerged from the pit lane first. The Callaway Corvette crew took nine seconds longer to swap drivers, which enabled the Tonino Porsche with Renauer at the wheel to claim a fifth win of the season for his amateur team-mate. Lips, aided by ADAC Sports Foundation protégé Lennart Marioneck, came second. Nielsen partnered by Kuba Giermaziak, who was returning to the series after a two-year absence and driving a Porsche 911 GT3 R for the very first time, finished third. Toni Seiler (Callaway Competition) struggled with gearbox problems and finished fourth in his Corvette.

"It wasn´t at all easy for the first few laps, as there was barely any visibility," said Bourdeaux afterwards. "I was following Remo (Lips), but after the pit stop, my co-driver Alfred Renauer seized the lead in the classification. I´m relieved that Christina (Nielsen) finished behind me today, because that has helped me to extend my championship lead."

Lips was clearly frustrated to have lost the class win in the box: "It´s a long time since I last competed in a wet weather race, so it took me a while to adjust to the conditions. After that, though, it went well. Unfortunately, we seem to have lost five seconds on the pit stop, which cost us the victory."

Bourdeaux has a twelve-point lead over Nielsen in the Gentlemen standings going into the 100th ADAC GT Masters race on Sunday.
