ADAC GT Masters·11.2.2013

First steps taken to ensure exciting races: The FIA, motor racing´s governing body, undertakes GT3 BoP (balance of performance) testing

Measures initiated this February will pave the way for hard-fought competition, thrilling scraps and gripping racing in the ADAC GT Masters. Last week, the FIA required all super sports cars from the various manufacturers competing in the GT3 class to attend BoP testing at a state-of-the-art test track near Clermont-Ferrand in France. Data on engine performance and downforce for all 2013 GT3 cars was collected during road trials.

Pre-season BoP testing of all GT3 sports cars is carried out every year. Utilising the data obtained, the vehicle's classification is then ascertained in order to ensure an equal playing field for the different cars in the GT3 class and also in the ADAC GT Masters.

Data collected in France will be analysed over the next few weeks by the FIA and a baseline classification determined. Using the data, the German Motorsport Association (DMSB) that has sole responsibility for classifying vehicles in the ADAC GT Masters will then work with the FIA to establish classifications in the Super Sports Car League. A new specially adapted computer programme will be used this season to classify all vehicles contesting the ADAC GT Masters.

In addition, classifications in the ADAC GT Masters will be continually reviewed and adjusted as necessary throughout the season. Data recorders have been mandatory in all cars contesting the ADAC GT Masters since 2012. Data collected is analysed after each race.
