This year marks the start of Lamborghini´s commitment to GT3 motor racing. Up until now, all GT3 Lamborghini's have been developed and built by privateers, Reiter Engineering, but Lamborghini has now officially contracted Hans Reiter to develop the Lamborghini Gallardo for motor racing.
GT3 Gallardos will in future be co-developed by Reiter Engineering and Lamborghini's own R&D Department. The first fruits of this collaboration can be seen out on the track in the next few weeks: The Lamborghini Gallardo GT3 FL2 that replaces the LP600+ first introduced in 2011 is based on the 2013 Lamborghini Gallardo.
Updating the LP600+, the new FL2 has been developed with an eye to reliability in endurance races, and so the cooling system has been upgraded and fuel consumption reduced. Aerodynamics have also been revised with a new front splitter and rear diffuser, plus weight has been reduced by 25kg.
This collaboration between Reiter Engineering, the most successful team to date in the ADAC GT Masters with 20 wins, and Lamborghini is set to last a minimum of five years. Squadra Corse, Lamborghini's motor racing department, will take care of customer support in the years to come. Lamborghini will commence deliveries of the first new vehicles to customers in March.
Lamborghini is the most successful manufacturer in the ADAC GT Masters with a total of 21 victories since 2007 - all wins secured running Gallardos prepared by Reiter Engineering.
