ADAC GT Masters·5.9.2013

Lausitzring notebook: News snippets from the fifth round of the 2013 ADAC GT Masters

A total of 15,300 spectators came through the gates over the course of the weekend.

Oscar Fiorinotto, technical director at Lambda Performance, has by far the longest journey to and from the ADAC GT Masters: Fiorinotto lives in Australia and generally flies home between fixtures.

Martin Matzke called in at the Lausitzring and plans to be at the Slovakia Ring too. The two-time ADAC GT Masters race winner was unwilling to reveal which team he was with.

Vita4One Racing gave the Lausitzring weekend a miss but aim to be back for the two races at the Slovakia Ring.

Handbiker Lars Hoffmann set a new world record in the sport at the Lausitzring on Wednesday. He was seen chatting to ADAC track spokesman Swen Wauer ahead of Sunday's race.

Diego Alessi and Daniel Keilwitz are only the second driver pairing to have notched up three ADAC GT Masters race victories in succession. The first partnership to achieve the feat were Christopher Haase and Jos Menten in a Lamborghini Gallardo entered by Reiter in the 2007 season; they won both races at Zolder (Belgium) and then went on to win Race 1 at the Sachsenring.

Saturday's race at the Lausitzring was only the second time in the history of the ADAC GT Masters that the stewards have brought out the red flags. The first occasion was Race 2 at the Norisring in 2008, but unlike last weekend, that race was abandoned and the win was awarded to Tim Bergmeister and Marc Basseng driving a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup S entered by Team Mühlner.

The aforementioned Marc Basseng was seen in the garage of Audi driver Markus Winkelhock last weekend. The Winkelhock/Basseng partnership won the FIA GT1 world championship last year.

René Rast and Christopher Mies used a couple of camping chairs to make themselves comfortable on the grid before Saturday's race.

After both ADAC GT Masters races, Egon Allgäuer entertained the fans with demo laps in his racing truck.

Christian Abt, René Rast and Rahel Frey turned up one hour late for a press conference in Dresden on Thursday. Frey had a puncture on the way to the venue and had to wait for roadside assistance.

Diego Alessi and Daniel Keilwitz now have seven race victories to their credit, which promotes them to the Top Three all-time winners.

The Corvette win in Saturday's race was the 15th overall in the series for the American supercar; on Sunday, a Porsche 911 GT3 R won for the tenth time.

Last week's edition of Italian magazine 'Autosport' carried a full-page interview with current championship leader Diego Alessi. The title of the article was 'Don Diego', a reference to Don Diego de la Vega, better known as Zorro.

Ford GT driver Frank Kechele contested his 70th ADAC GT Masters race on Sunday.

The only contestants handed a penalty for speeding in the pit lane last weekend were Christian Hohenadel (Corvette) and Dominik Schwager (Ford GT).
