Former ADAC GT Masters driver Maxime Martin has made the step up to the DTM. In the 2012 ADAC GT Masters, Martin together with ex-champion Dino Lunardi in a BMW Alpina B6 GT3 were prime contenders for the title, losing out only on the final weekend. BMW subsequently signed the 27-year-old son of Belgian racing legend Jean-Michel Martin as a works driver to compete in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) and in endurance racing with an additional role as test and development driver for the DTM. In the 2009 and 2012 ADAC GT Masters seasons, Martin contested 18 races, notching up five wins and two pole positions.
"After his impressive year as a test and development driver, Maxime Martin is now ready to prove himself at DTM level," says BMW Motorsport Director Jens Marquardt. "His work as a DTM test driver combined with his successful record in the BMW Z4 GT3 has convinced us that he will be an asset to our driver line-up."
"I was always planning to use my year as a test and development driver to establish my claim to a DTM cockpit," says Martin. "I´m very proud that I have now made the grade. My thanks go to BMW Motorsport for the very instructive past twelve months and for the confidence they have shown in me. I will do everything I can to achieve success in the DTM."
Portugal´s António Félix da Costa will be joining Martin in the BMW squad for next year´s DTM. Three-time World Touring Car Champion Andy Priaulx and Dirk Werner will not be contesting the 2014 series for BMW. The Munich-based manufacturer will instead be sending Priaulx to represent them in the new United SportsCar Championship on the other side of the Atlantic while Werner will be driving a BMW Z4 GT3 in various endurance events, including the ADAC Zurich 24-hour race at the Nürburgring.
