Maximilian Götz: We do not blame ourselves: Mercedes driver Maximilian Götz reflects on his ADAC GT Masters season

Maximilian Götz has now come to terms with not finishing in the finale at Hockenheim, which cost him and team-mate Maximilian Buhk the title: "It is, of course, a pity the way the finale went for us, because we did everything right," said Götz. "We were second in the standings, were bang on target and had a good chance of winning the title. Second place on Sunday would probably have been enough, but then, a ridiculous technical problem reared its ugly head. We certainly cannot blame ourselves and did everything dead right. It's very unfortunate that we missed the runners-up title, and, since we were not in a position to secure any points in the final race, finished third in the end. But we can still hold our heads up high, even if we didn't lift the title, because all of us - Maximilian, Polarweiss Racing, HTP Motorsport and the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 - have achieved a great deal this year."

Mercedes-Benz driver Götz found the title fight harder this year than in 2012 when he won the championship along with Sebastian Asch: "Jockeying for position at the top of the championship rankings was even tougher this year, partly because more drivers were title contenders in the run-up to this year's finale. Winning a championship is always a struggle, and staying in contention for the title right up until the final race has been jolly tough these past two years. However, this year's title fight was definitely a touch more difficult."

Götz remains content with his season despite the championship title eluding him. The Mercedes-Benz driver's track record is long and impressive: pole and win in the ADAC GT Masters, overall victory at the 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps and a win in the finale of the Blancpain Endurance Series at the Nürburgring, plus a DTM test with Mercedes-Benz. "I think that the season could hardly have gone better from a driving point of view. We did well. The races in the ADAC GT Masters were great, and we can be very satisfied with our year."
