New American Muscle Car: Callaway Corvette C7: Callaway Competition to prepare new Corvette for homologation in GT3 class

The GT3 class gets another, spectacular addition: Callaway Competition, led by Ernst Wöhr and Giovanni Ciccone, is developing a racing version of the latest generation Chevrolet Corvette. General Motors, Chevrolet´s parent company, has appointed Callaway Competition as the preferred bidder to develop a racing version of the seventh generation of the legendary American sports car that complies with GT3 regulations. The production version of the new Corvette C7 Stingray will reach dealers in the autumn. The C7 GT3 replaces the Z06.R GT3 that Callaway Competition has been racing since 2006.

Callaway Competition will develop and build the Corvette C7 GT3 in Leingarten, near Heilbronn. The C7 development programme gets under way in the autumn. Callaway are planning a test programme on the race track for the spring, and the car´s first race outings are calendared for the 2014 season. After successful completion of the test programme, Callaway Competition will submit documentation to the FIA automobile federation regarding homologation of the Corvette C7 in the GT3 class. Callaway Competition, an ADAC GT Masters team since its inception, will also make the Corvette C7 available to customer teams to purchase. The Corvette C7 GT3 will have its first full season in 2015.

Callaway Competition has already achieved success in GT3 motor racing with the Z06.GT3. Callaway Competition was the most successful team in the FIA GT3 European championship, notching up four championship title wins with their Corvette. Since 2007, Ernst Wöhr´s and Giovanni Ciccone´s team has secured twelve race wins and three championship titles in the ADAC GT Masters.
