Porsche is still without a win in the ADAC GT Masters 2013 season, but in the second free practice session at the Lausitzring, four Porsche teams made known their intentions to achieve the first success of the season for the 911 GT3 R. Robert Renauer and Martin Ragginger (Tonino powered by Herberth Motorsport) succeeded in setting fastest time at high-noon on the 3.442km Lausitzring circuit. The two Tonino/Herberth drivers set the fastest time at an early stage in the session, and no other driver was subsequently able to get near their 1:20.720.
Behind the Tonino/Herberth Porsche, and within half a second of each other, came three more Porsche 911 GT3 Rs with Christina Nielsen/Nick Tandy (Farnbacher Racing), Christian Engelhart/Nicolas Armindo (Team Geyer & Weinig EDV - Schütz Motorsport) and Mario Farnbacher/Philip Frommenwiler (Farnbacher Racing). Jürg Aeberhard and David Jahn underlined the 911's strong performance by placing seventh, thus securing another Top Ten finish in the third Porsche prepared by Farnbacher Racing. The Lausitzring has been good for Porsche in the past; Nick Tandy and Christian Engelhart won both ADAC GT Masters races last year at the Lausitzring in the Porsche 911.
Jeroen den Boer and Simon Knap (DB Motorsport) were placed fifth in the BMW Z4 GT3 behind the leading Porsche quartet. The three Audi R8 LMS ultras of Prosperia C Abt Racing with Christer Jöns/Markus Winkelhock, Rahel Frey/Christopher Haase and René Rast/Christopher Mies finished the second free practice session in positions six, eight and nine respectively. Claudia Hürtgen and Dominik Baumann (PIXUM Team Schubert) completed the Top Ten in the BMW Z4 GT3.
Championship leaders Maximilian Götz und Maximilian Buhk in the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 (Polarweiss Racing) finished in P15, one second off the pace. Diego Alessi/Daniel Keilwitz (Callaway Competition), who are one point behind the Mercedes-Benz duo in their Corvette GT3 Z06.R, ended practice in 19th place.
