The ADAC GT Masters got under way at the Nürburgring after the summer break with a best time for Porsche. In first practice under a cloudless bright blue sky with early morning temperatures nudging 26 degrees at the Nürburgring, fastest time went to the Porsche 911 GT3 R (Farnbacher Racing) of Christina Nielsen and British driver Sean Edwards, who is lining up for the first time this season in the ADAC GT Masters here in the Eifel. The Porsche pair set the best time of 1:26.302 minutes early on in the session to secure P1. No one was subsequently able to beat the time posted by Edwards.
The Porsche 911 GT3 Rs made a strong impression on the Nürburgring's 3.6km sprint track. On occasions, there were no less than four 911s occupying the top four places. Second fastest time with a deficit of only 0.079 seconds went to Porsche duo Christian Engelhart/Nicolas Armindo (Team Geyer & Weinig EDV, Schütz Motorsport). The times posted in this first practice session indicate that the two fixtures on the short track will produce extremely close, exciting racing, since just one second covered the 18 fastest ADAC GT Masters super sports cars.
Diego Alessi and Daniel Keilwitz (Callaway Competition) took third fastest time in their Corvette Z06.R from the winners of last weekend's 24 Hours of Spa, Maximilian Buhk and Maximilian Götz (Polarweiss Racing) in the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3.
Frank Kechele/Dominik Schwager in the Ford GT (Lambda Performance) were fifth, ahead of Max Sandritter/Jörg Müller in the BMW Z4 GT3 (PIXUM Team Schubert) and Mario Farnbacher/Philip Frommenwiler in the Porsche 911 GT3 R (Farnbacher Racing).
Former DTM driver Jeroen Bleekemolen from the Netherlands brought home his Z06.GT3 Corvette (Callaway Competition) that he is sharing with Toni Seiler on his first ADAC GT Masters outing this year in eighth position. Close behind them came Robert Renauer and Porsche Junior Michael Christensen in the Porsche 911 GT3 R (Tonino powered by Herberth Motorsport) and Andreas Wirth/Christian Hohenadel (Callaway Competition) in another Z06.R Corvette GT3.
