The Porsche 911 GT3 R has not performed especially well at the Sachsenring in the past, but Christian Engelhart and Nicolas Armindo (Team Geyer & Weinig EDV / Schütz Motorsport) surprised everyone by coming up trumps in second practice during the third ADAC GT Masters race weekend at the Sachsenring. The Porsche duo posted the fastest time of 1:21.258 minutes in the yellow-black Porsche, just undercutting the existing ADAC GT Masters qualifying record at the Sachsenring (1:21.351 minutes, Luca Ludwig/Audi, 2010).
The time posted by Engelhart/Armindo was significantly better than the opposition's. With temperatures of 21 degrees and under partly cloudy skies, the Geyer & Weinig drivers beat the second fastest car, the Audi R8 LMS ultra of Christopher Mies and René Rast (Prosperia C. Abt Racing), by 0.460 seconds.
Third and fourth fastest times went to two BMW Z4 GT3s, as Martin Matzke/Yelmer Buurman (Vita4One Racing Team) nosed ahead of fellow BMW drivers, Max Sandritter/Jens Klingmann (PIXUM Team Schubert), repeating their fine performance from first practice.
Defending champion Maximilian Götz and Maximilian Buhk brought their Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 (Polarweiss Racing) home in fifth place ahead of the fastest Corvette GT3 Z06.R (Callaway Competition) with ADAC GT Masters championship runners-up Diego Alessi and Daniel Keilwitz.
Christer Jöns, lining up for the first time at the Sachsenring with Markus Winkelhock in the Audi R8 LMS ultra (Prosperia C. Abt Racing), was seventh ahead of the Porsche 911 GT3 R driven by Robert Renauer/Martin Ragginger (Tonino powered by Herberth Motorsport) and Sebastian Asch/Florian Stoll (MS RACING) in the Audi R8 LMS ultra.
Sergey Afanasiev and Andreas Simonsen completed the Top Ten in the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 (Polarweiss Racing).
