ADAC GT Masters·15.8.2013

Red Bull Ring notebook: News snippets from Spielberg in Austria

The winners of Sunday's ADAC GT Masters shared the podium with a celebrity from another sporting discipline: presenting the trophies for Race 2 was Austrian skiing star Klaus Kröll.

10,000 fans came through the gates for the ADAC GT Masters weekend at the Red Bull Ring.

Next stop after the Alps for Jörg Müller is Japan. The BMW man is due to drive a BMW Z4 in next weekend's 1000km of Suzuka, one of the races in the Japanese Super GT Championship series.

Two Lamborghini Gallardo FL2s went on display in the paddock on Sunday. Reiter Engineering, who had arranged to conduct a private test at the Red Bull Ring on Monday and Tuesday, decided to let interested fans inspect the cars at close quarters.

Ex-Formula 1 and top GT driver Tomas Enge from the Czech Republic is currently working for Hans Reiter at Reiter Engineering where he is in charge of customer care. During the Spielberg weekend, he was acting team manager for SaReNi United.

DTM engineer Alex Stehlig, whose regular job is at Abt Sportsline looking after Jamie Green's Audi RS5 DTM, was 'on holiday' in the Styrian Alps, which meant he was available to offer support to his former team boss Christian Abt and the Prosperia C Abt Racing Team. Stehlig won the 2009 ADAC GT Masters title with Abt.

Martin Matzke was unable to drive for Vita4One at the Red Bull Ring. The Czech was due to hand in his Bachelor's dissertation, so had to give the ADAC GT Masters weekend in Austria a miss.

On the way to the Red Bull Ring, Toni Seiler called in at a shop selling Austrian national costume. Seiler and his wife Moni turned up in the paddock on Sunday wearing Lederhosen and a Dirndl.

So far this campaign, there has not been a single ADAC GT Masters weekend on which it has not rained. At the Nürburgring and at the Red Bull Ring, however, the rain at least stayed away for the qualifying sessions and the race itself.

There was a dramatic drop in temperature from Thursday to Friday, with the thermometer plunging a full ten degrees from Thursday's 38°C high.

The Red Bull Ring will once again be hosting Formula 1 Grand Prix races from 2014. Preparations involve some major structural work, especially on the grandstands. Work commenced immediately after the ADAC GT Masters weekend.

Only two drivers were penalised for going too fast in the pit lane during the race weekend: Philip Geipel and Gerhard Tweraser.

On the other hand, no fewer than ten drivers were handed drive-through penalties in Sunday's race after passing the yellow flags for Tweraser's accident at a speed judged too fast.
