René Bourdeaux back on top: Race win for Porsche driver restores championship lead

René Bourdeaux is back at the top of the Gentlemen standings in the ADAC GT Masters. Bourdeaux drove the Porsche 911 GT3 R (Tonino powered by Herberth Motorsport) he shares with Alfred Renauer to a fourth win of the season in the amateur category, at the same time dislodging yesterday´s leader and fellow Porsche driver Christina Nielsen (Farnbacher Racing). Toni Seiler in his Callaway Competition Corvette was race runner-up, while local favourite Gottfried Grasser (Grasser Racing) came third in a Lamborghini Gallardo FL2.

After finishing second on Saturday , Bourdeaux secured a flawless start-to-finish victory in Race 2 at the Red Bull Ring, thanks in no small measure to co-driver Renauer. Renauer, who achieved the best grid position of his ADAC GT Masters career to date, made optimum use of it, handing over to Bourdeaux at half time with a comfortable lead over the other Gentlemen contenders. The man from Munich then cruised to an unchallenged win. "I wasn´t aggressive enough in yesterday´s race," said Bourdeaux afterwards, "so today I attacked more. Alfred (Renauer) drove a brilliant first stint and managed to stay ahead of two Corvettes. All I had to do in the second half of the race was to defend the position. What a wonderful race and result!"

The other two podium places were more closely contested. In the first half of the race, two Frenchmen Mike Parisy (Corvette) and Anthony Beltoise (Porsche ) were vying for second and third on behalf of their respective amateur partners. When Parisy was given a drive-through penalty, Beltoise moved ahead. But after the driver changeover, Seiler regained the lost position and ultimately took his yellow Corvette across the finish line in second place. After suffering a gearbox failure in Saturday´s race, Seiler was happy with the runner-up spot: "We extracted as much out of today´s race as we were going to get. It wasn´t easy for us; I had to concentrate all the time on not straying over the white line marking the edge of the track so as not to get hit with a penalty. But otherwise, the race got better with each new lap."

Until three laps from the end, Christina Nielsen from Denmark was still on course for the third podium place, but then local favourite Grasser overtook her to claim a trophy in his home race. Some small consolation for Grasser whose team did not have the happiest of weekends. "We got bumped at the start of the race and were then handed a drive-through penalty. The Lamborghini seems to run well in the ADAC GT Masters, at least in the temperatures we´ve experienced this weekend, so I´m really happy about that."

Remo Lips, Saturday´s winner in the Gentlemen class, could finish no higher than fifth in his Callaway Competition Corvette after team-mate Lennart Marioneck received a drive-through penalty early on in the race.
