ADAC GT Masters·10.5.2013

Spa: Mercedes-Benz sets the pace: Buhk and Götz post fastest time in second practice session

High speed in the Ardennes: Spa-Francorchamps will allow the ADAC GT Masters drivers to go faster than ever before. The circuit in Belgium takes over from the Red Bull Ring as the speediest on the ADAC GT Masters calendar. In the second free practice session, Maximilian Buhk and Maximilian Götz in their Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 set a best time of 02:20.884 minutes. Their average speed of 179km/h over the lap makes them the ‘Speed Kings´ of the series, as no-one has yet gone quicker in the Super Sports Car League.

The second-fastest time on Friday afternoon was set by the Porsche 911 GT3 R of Christina Nielsen and Allan Simonsen. The Danish duo trailed the Polarweiss Mercedes by 0.6 seconds. Simonsen did not need to acclimatise himself to his surroundings, as he had secured a podium at the same venue only one week previously in the 6 Heures de Spa-Francorchamps staged as part of the FIA World Endurance Championship. Not far behind the Porsche was the Audi R8 LMS ultra of Christopher Mies and René Rast.

Fourth fastest in the second session were the leading duo from the morning, Robert Renauer and Martin Ragginger (Tonino by Herberth Motorsport) in their Porsche 911 GT3 R. Fifth quickest and the best of the BMW Z4s was the Dutch pairing of Simon Knap and Jeroen den Boer (DB Motorsport). They were followed by Christer Jöns and Christian Mamerow (Prosperia C. Abt Racing) in an Audi R8 LMS and by Diego Alessi and Daniel Keilwitz (Callaway Competition) in the fastest Corvette Z06.R GT3.

Christian Engelhart and Nicolas Armindo (Team Geyer & Weinig / Schütz Motorsport) improved on their morning performance to eighth on the timesheets ahead of Claudia Hürtgen and Dominik Baumann in a BMW Z4 GT3 and the second of the two Polarweiss Racing Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3s driven by Andreas Simonsen and Sergey Afanasiev.
