Third win of the season for René Bourdeaux: Porsche one-two in the Gentlemen classification

No-one could accuse the Gentlemen stakes of being a dull affair in the first of this weekend´s two races at the Sachsenring. After a brief moment of mayhem on the opening lap, René Bourdeaux (Tonino powered by Herberth Motorsport) established a lead in his stint behind the wheel of the Porsche 911 GT3 R to beat the current leader in the standings, Christina Nielsen (Farnbacher Racing), and claim a third win of the season. Corvette driver Toni Seiler (Callaway Competition) made his second podium appearance of 2013 to claim the trophy for third place.

René Bourdeaux did not have the best of luck at the start of the race, losing the lead to BMW Z4 GT3 driver Paul Green (Vita4One Racing Team) after steering his Porsche around a Lamborghini that was stranded in the middle of the track. Green enjoyed his temporary lead only until the second lap when a mistake allowed Remo Lips (Callaway Competition) to overtake in his Corvette. But the Swiss amateur was equally unable to defend his position for long as René Bourdeaux made good the deficit caused by his earlier bad luck and retook the lead on Lap 7.

After the handover, Alfred Renauer put in a faultless stint to assure his Tonino/Herberth team-mate of a third winner´s trophy of the season in this particular category. "That was a very good race today," said a delighted Bourdeaux. "At the start, I lost a few places and caught a glancing blow from a spinning Lamborghini. But fortunately, the car didn´t sustain any damage, and so it was up to me to claw back the positions I had lost."

Remo Lips was the unluckiest man in the amateur class. After vacating the cockpit for Lennart Marioneck, the yellow-painted number 17 Corvette had to retire in the second half of the race. This was to the benefit of Christina Nielsen, who went on to take the runner-up spot, and to Toni Seiler, who scrambled onto the podium in third. "There was pandemonium on the first lap with a Lamborghini straddling the track," said Nielsen after the race. "I had to take some evasive action which cost me a couple of positions. We´re having problems with our setup here, which still isn´t right. Second place in the Gentlemen standings is quite respectable, though. But you can never be totally satisfied if the car isn´t perfect."

Lamborghini driver Eduard Leganov (Team rhino´s Leipert Motorsport) finished the day in fourth place ahead of Paul Green.
