ADAC GT Masters champions honoured: Honouring the champions at ADAC gala in Munich

The honours piled up at the end of an exciting ADAC GT Masters season. On Saturday, the 2014 ADAC GT Masters champions received recognition for their success at the ADAC gala, held in the ADAC's new Munich headquarters in the presence of some 300 invited guests. René Rast, who was in Munich on his own account and on behalf of team-mate and co-champion Kelvin van der Linde, accepted the honours for winning the drivers' championship. Christian Abt received the trophy for winning the team title with Prosperia C Abt Racing, and Herbert Handlos was recognised as best Gentlemen driver in the ADAC GT Masters.

"It's been a fantastic year for me, crowning my season with the ADAC GT Masters title after wins in the ADAC Zurich 24-hour race at the Nürburgring and in the 24 Hours of Spa," said Audi driver Rast, on being presented with the drivers' championship trophy by ADAC Sports President Hermann Tomczyk and ADAC officer for cars, Jürgen Fabry.

Christian Abt, who was in Munich along with Prosperia C Abt Racing co-owner Slobodan Cvetkovic, thanked his team for their achievements this year: "Winning two titles in the ADAC GT Masters in only our second season and mounting a successful defence of the team title proves what a great outfit we have. None of that would have been possible without a strong team."

Gentlemen champion Herbert Handlos was joined in Munich by Alfred Renauer, his partner in the Porsche 911 GT3 R for seven of the eight race weekends. On stage, the Austrian told gala presenters, Andrea Kaiser and Jan Stecker: "I am currently in negotiations with the team, regarding our defence of the title next year."
