ADAC GT Masters: Comments after Race 1: Observations after the first of two ADAC GT Masters races at Hockenheim

Andreas Wirth (#1 Callaway Competition, Corvette Z06.R GT3), winner:

"On the first few laps, I was behind David Jahn in another Corvette, and it's never easy battling against the same make of vehicle. I could have gone a bit faster, but I was driving more tactically, so I dropped back and tried to conserve my tyres. Daniel then drove a fantastic second stint. I'm so relieved to have got back on the podium at Hockenheim. Now I just hope that it stays dry tomorrow so we can go on the attack again in the second race."

Daniel Keilwitz (#1 Callaway Competition, Corvette Z06.R GT3), winner:

"The car was very consistent in the second half of the race. We had aimed to get the setup right for us to attack in the second stint and have a good car over the distance. That was the key to victory. If it's dry on Sunday, we should have good hand to play in the Race 2."

Luca Ludwig (#21 BKK MOBIL OIL Zakspeed, Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3), second:

"I'm very happy with second place. I didn't think that we would come out of this race as winners, because Harald has limited experience. But he did a fantastic job, defended his position magnificently and didn't show any sign of nerves. In the initial stage, it was a lot of fun. Unfortunately, I got stuck in traffic on my in-lap and lost at least 2.5 seconds. I think those were ultimately the decisive seconds that cost us the win today."

Kelvin van der Linde (#10 Prosperia C Abt Racing, Audi R8 LMS ultra), tenth and 2014 ADAC GT Masters champion:

"I was quite cautious at the start and tried to avoid any risk, because some of the opposition were determined to finish on the podium in any way they could. We weren't able to battle for the win today - we were just a bit too slow to contest the front positions. At the moment, I still can't believe that we've clinched the title. It's a crazy sort of feeling."

René Rast (#10 Prosperia C Abt Racing Audi R8 LMS ultra), tenth and 2014 ADAC GT Masters Champion:

"That was an absolute thriller and an emotional rollercoaster. When it looked like van Lagen was in contention for the win, we could see our championship lead just melting away. I hoped that something might happen up front or that there would be a safety car period. And then something really did happen - the Porsche crew made a mistake. To win this championship, you have to do a perfect job all year round, and you can't afford to make any errors. That's why we are right up at the front now. After my victories in those two 24-hour races, picking up the ADAC GT Masters title has made my season perfect. I think that the ADAC GT Masters is the most competitive GT race series in Europe, and winning the title here makes me very proud."

Christian Engelhart (#3 GW IT Racing Team Schütz Motorsport, Porsche 911 GT3 R), P11:

"I had a good start and a good stint. My thanks go to Robert Renauer for being so fair. Up until the pit stop, I was gradually catching up with the Mercedes driven by Ludwig. The in-lap was good, but then the pit stop was bad."

Harald Schlegelmilch (#21 BKK MOBIL OIL Zakspeed, Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3), second:

"Luca did most of the work. I've not sat in a race car for the last few years, so I had to brush off a few cobwebs. The duel with the Corvette was robust but also fair. The opposition in this series is very tough, but also very fair."

Martin Ragginger (#8 TONINO Team Herberth, Porsche 911 GT3 R), third:

"The Corvette and the Mercedes-Benz were too fast on the straights, so I was unable to keep up. Our car was good, and Robert was excellent on the opening few laps. Second place is highly respectable, but unfortunately we had no chance on the straights."

Robert Renauer (#8 TONINO Team Herberth, Porsche 911 GT3 R), third:

"I was able to match the Mercedes quite well for speed at the start, but then it began to pull away. Ultimately, I'm satisfied with the result - this is the third weekend in a row that we have made a podium appearance. The first part of the final weekend is over; tomorrow comes Part 2."

Dominic Jöst (#9 TONINO Herberth, Porsche 911 GT3 R), winner in Gentlemen class:

"The start was all over the place, but our car was really good and I was able to gain some places. Then a Mercedes put me into a spin going into the hairpin, and I had to pursue the field from behind. But despite that, we finally posted our first class win of the season."

Florian Scholze (#9 TONINO Herberth, Porsche 911 GT3 R), winner in Gentlemen class:

"I was shocked to see Dominic being spun round on the monitor early on in the first stint. It's always much worse seeing it on TV than being in the car yourself. But then he handed the car over in a good position, and my race was actually quite uneventful; it was a bit like driving round on an empty track for half an hour. Then I saw that Toni Seiler's Corvette was stranded at the side of the track and that we were up to first. That was victory number one of the season; we're immensely happy about that."

Herbert Handlos (#7 TONINO Team Herberth, Porsche 911 GT3 R), second in Gentlemen class:

"The race was a bit patchy. I was battling it out with another Porsche for a couple of laps until it ended with the two of us being spun round. But at least we were both able to continue the race. It's great that our team-mates have won the class today. We're now going to celebrate the title."

Remo Lips (#17 Callaway Corvette, Z06.R GT3), third in Gentlemen class:

"At the start, everyone ahead of me braked sharply. I had to shift down into first gear and the gearbox went into neutral, so I had to restart the engine. By then, of course, the rest of the field was long gone."

Sebastian Asch (#6 Farnbacher Racing, Porsche 911 GT3 R), P7:

"I had a pretty good start and was able to position the car perfectly to carry the momentum through from the first corner. But then I got nudged and took a second direct hit, which cost me several places. We had very good performance, and a podium finish would have been a definite possibility. We posted some of the fastest lap times and would certainly have been capable of competing with the front-runners."
