ADAC GT Masters: Comments after the race: Reactions from the paddock after the first race at the Slovakia Ring

Claudia Hürtgen (#19 PIXUM Team Schubert, BMW Z4 GT3), Winner: "I was wondering last night how best to get through the first turn and it went well in the end. There was no chance of attacking the Corvette, so I focused on nursing the car for Dominik. The team have earned their place at the top, as everyone worked very hard during the summer break. We took part in all the tests and posted the most laps of any team. Success has eventually come our way and we've taken a well deserved win."

Dominik Baumann (#19 PIXUM Team Schubert, BMW Z4 GT3); Winner: "There was another safety car period shortly before the end of the race and I was very concerned because we had two Corvettes close behind us. But we made a fine job of the restart and everything worked out well down to the final few metres. I felt extremely comfortable and this result is very important to all of us."

Max Sandritter (#20 PIXUM Team Schubert, BMW Z4 GT3), Second: "The race was good. It was obvious to me at the start that the Corvette would take the lead, but I had expected to be in a position to find a reply to David Jahn. However, Claudia was slipstreaming the Corvette and was even able to overtake me. But that was OK. Thanks to a good pit stop, we were able to overtake the Corvette and take second place. We'll do the same again tomorrow, but then we'll finish on top."

Jens Klingmann (#20 PIXUM Team Schubert, BMW Z4 GT3), Second: "I didn't have a serious attempt at attacking Dominik after the driver changeover. He came out of the pits one lap earlier than me and was then in front. I naturally looked to see whether there might be a chance to overtake, but you don't act without thinking when a team-mate who is fighting for the championship is driving in front of you. Tomorrow, we'll have to get the start just right in order to take the lead after the first turn, and then we might even win."

David Jahn (#13 RWT RacingTeam, Corvette Z06.R GT3), Third: "I'm a bit lost for words, because we didn't think that we would be so far up the field this weekend. I was hoping to maybe finish in the top five but not on the podium. My start was good and I was able to extend my lead. The BMWs were extremely fast, especially in the middle sector. The BMW team probably made a better job than us of getting tyre pressures right, but we can perhaps find the optimum settings for tomorrow. It would be great if we can finish somewhere between sixth and eight in the second race."

Remo Lips (#17 Callaway Competition, Corvette Z06.R GT3), Winner in Gentlemen class: "I collided with an Audi at the start of the race and accidentally hit the pit limiter. By the time I noticed what had happened, I was at the back of the field. But then we started to work our way forward, and we were able to close up completely when the safety car came out on the track. Lenny brought the car home in superb fashion. This time, for once, we had a bit of luck."

Lennart Marioneck (#17 Callaway Competition, Corvette Z06.R GT3), P16: "After the bad luck suffered by Remo at the start of the race, the safety car deployment allowed us to catch up with the field again. It was difficult with the tyres on those last few laps, but thanks to our sheer power, I was able to overtake the Porsche. Robert played very fair in the manoeuvre. On the final laps, I was somewhat faster than the others, which is why it worked out well."

Florian Scholze (#9 TONINO Team Herberth, Porsche 911 GT3 R), Third in Gentlemen class: "I totally messed up the start - it felt like I'd lost at least ten positions. I then got involved in a scrap with two Audis, and unfortunately made contact with Fabian Hamprecht. I went into a spin, caused by dirt on my tyres and Hamprecht also went off into the gravel, but at least there was no second contact. But even without these incidents, I don't think I could have finished higher."

Dominic Jöst (#9 TONINO Team Herberth, Porsche 911 GT3 R), Third in Gentlemen class: "It was a difficult race for us, and we were always going to be at something of a disadvantage here at the Slovakia Ring in the Porsche. The collision involving Florian in the first half of the race made itself really noticeable in my stint - I was getting strong vibrations form the car and had to make a precautionary pit stop because I thought we had sustained some tyre damage."

Herbert Handlos (#7 TONINO Team Herberth, Porsche 911 GT3 R): "Obviously, it's a bitter pill to swallow when you're deprived of the race victory one lap from the finish, but we just have to live with it. The Corvette and Robert put up a good fight. Congratulations to the Corvette guys. We were a bit out of luck, because the safety car period allowed the Corvette to close the gap on us."

Daniel Keilwitz (#1 Callaway Competition, Corvette Z06.R GT3): "The scrap with Sven Barth for third place was fun. I would have liked to have overtaken him as well, but you immediately lose downforce on the front axle in the very fast turns whenever you get too close to the car in front and oversteer sets in. I could only have got past using brute force and there's no sense in that. Fourth place is a good result. Now we intend to finish on the podium in the second race."

Rahel Frey (#16 YACO Racing, Audi R8 LMS ultra), P11: "We lack speed, and the safety car period towards the end of the race didn't help us shake off any of our competitors either. We also had some problems with tyres on the final laps. We lack top speed and can't gain time on the brakes, as the BMWs are much lighter and so can brake much later."

Daniel Dobitsch (#100 kfzteile24 APR Motorsport, Audi R8 LMS ultra), P17: "We're slower here on the straights than we were last year. We've dropped up to 10 km/h with the same classification. Obviously, the car doesn't like the heat. The safety car period didn't help much either, since we lost our lead as some fast cars caught us up."
