ADAC GT Masters: Comments after the race: Reactions from the paddock after the twelfth race of the season

Daniel Keilwitz (#1 Callaway Competition, Corvette Z06.R GT3), Winner: "We didn't have a deal to lose today, starting from P17 on the grid, so we took the risk and went out on slicks, which was exactly the right decision. We were not in the best of moods when the rain set in, as it came down so heavily. After a few laps, though, we were quicker than the opposition on wets. Things kept getting better and the gamble soon paid off. Once the track had dried out, I was able to pull well ahead."

Andreas Wirth (#1 Callaway Competition, Corvette Z06.R GT3), Winner: "I had to really push myself in the scrap with the Audi after the driver changeover, as I had to first find my bearings on a track that was still damp in places. Audi, Mercedes-Benz and Porsche had the advantage in the slippery conditions, but after a few laps I could control the lead well in the close scraps with my pursuers and use the Corvette to its best advantage."

René Rast (#10 Prosperia C Abt Racing, Audi R8 LMS ultra), Second: "In the end, it didn't matter on which tyres we started, since we were level with the Corvette after the pit stop. We went along with the majority of the field, who went for full wets. We weren't prepared to take a risk with our choice of tyre. Racing was quite unspectacular after taking the lead on the first lap. When the track dried out, though, the car was very difficult to drive."

Kelvin van der Linde (#10 Prosperia C Abt Racing, Audi R8 LMS ultra), Second: "The Corvette is simply too quick and has won five of the last six races. Battling the Corvette is very tough. Hopefully, next time out at the Sachsenring, we'll be well up front. I was also very cautious when the yellow flags were waving, because we were handed a penalty last time out at the Slovakia Ring. I'm a bit disappointed, but we still secured some decent points."

Maximilian Götz (#26 HTP Motorsport, Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3), Third: "Wet weather tyres were the better choice in the first half of the race. René and I drew away easily from the others in the first stint on the wets. Unfortunately, we then lost twelve seconds at the pit stop, which cost us a possible win. The safety car then helped us a bit, but in the end, we lost the race in the pits."

Renger van der Zande (#27 HTP Motorsport, Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3), Third: "The ADAC GT Masters is a very professional and competitive series and to finish on the podium at one's first weekend is therefore really special. I've had a good season so far with some success in America, and then to finish on the podium after not finding out till Tuesday that I would be racing is just terrific. A win might even have been possible today, but I'm very pleased and it was a lot of fun.

Jaap van Lagen (#3 GW IT Racing Team, Schütz Motorsport, Porsche 911 GT3 R), P4: "We decided to go out on slicks at the last moment and that was a good choice, as it enabled us to move up the field from grid position 15 to P4. Those are great points for us, and I'm now well placed in the title race. The slicks made things very tough for the first ten minutes, but then afterwards, I was much quicker and I'm very pleased."

Claudia Hürtgen (#19 PIXUM Team Schubert, BMW Z4 GT3), P15: "I slid on the damp crossover part of the track, as my tyres were not quite up to temperature. I wanted to brake down for the crossover on the inside of the track, but the Corvette was already there and I couldn't prevent a spin. I then hoped that it would start to rain again, but it remained dry, unfortunately."

Herbert Handlos (#7 TONINO Team Herberth, Porsche 911 GT3 R), Winner, Gentlemen Class: "Tyre choice was certainly not easy today, but Alfred did a great job in the initial phases of the race. We were in P4 at times. The pit stop was not perfect, which meant, sadly, that we missed finishing in the Top Ten overall."

Alfred Renauer (#7 TONINO Team Herberth, Porsche 911 GT3 R), P13: "We started on wets and kept up with the others. Conditions made it very exciting. The tyres, though, had badly degraded by the end of the stint. Herbert had to defend his position on the final few laps, which he did very well, leading to another win in class. We can leave the Nürburgring feeling very happy after yesterday's P3 and the win today."

Dominic Jöst (#9 TONINO Team Herberth, Porsche 911 GT3 R), Second, Gentlemen class: "Chaotic weather and gambling with tyres - fortunately, we made the right decision and went for wets. I wasn't quite sure at first, but I knew that we'd made the right choice after the first lap. We moved up as far as P7, but unfortunately, lost time in the pit-stop."

Florian Scholze (#9 TONINO Team Herberth, Porsche 911 GT3 R), Second, Gentlemen class: "We were in a bit of a panic on the grid as many of our opponents had switched to slicks and that made us uncertain about our decision to go out on wets. Our choice of tyre was correct in the final analysis. However, we had problems in the pit-stop and I then had to battle a bit with Herbert. We tried to go through the chicane along with the YACO Audi, but that didn't work and the three of us ended up driving through the grass. That, sadly, lost me three positions."

Wolf Nathan (#4 GW IT Racing Team, Schütz Motorsport, Porsche 911 GT3 R): "We took a gamble and started on slicks. It was not easy to get any heat in the tyres. Our car was brilliant today and Anton was very good, too, even battling for second place at one point. A great weekend, it was a lot of fun."

Anton Wossos (#4 GW IT Racing Team, Schütz Motorsport, Porsche 911 GT3 R): "Conditions were still very changeable when I took over the Porsche for the second stint, but still, I tried to battle for second place. However, as we had started on slicks, my tyres were older than those of the opposition and keeping up with them was tricky. I waited to seize my chance, but unfortunately, nothing untoward happened. Still, that's a good result for us."

Jaime Alguersuari (#22 ROWE RACING, Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3), DNF: "Unfortunately, I spun off on the first lap on the wet track and had a contact with another car. I then had to retire to the pits. I'm still finding things quite tricky in the GT car, which is very heavy. However, I think we could've secured a decent result today."
