ADAC GT Masters·30.8.2014

ADAC GT Masters: Notes from Friday: News from the ADAC GT Masters paddock

- Fans coming to the Nürburgring should keep in mind three events scheduled for the weekend. Two pit walks open to fans are to take place: On Saturday, starting at 9.55 am (30 mins on Sat) and on Sunday at 10:10 am (25 minutes on Sun). A Meet the Drivers autograph and interview session will be held on Saturday at 3:00 pm in the paddock in front of the ADAC motorhome.

- Albert von Thurn und Taxis arrived at the Nürburgring feeling relaxed. The 2010 ADAC GT Masters champion went on holiday to America after the race at the Slovakia Ring prior coming to the Eifel. But motor racing was not entirely off the holiday agenda. Von Thurn and Taxis contested a race at Sonoma in San Francisco, California, winning his class in the Reiter Lamborghini Gallardo.

- Tomas Enge, the team-mate of Albert von Thurn und Taxis in the Reiter Engineering Chevrolet Camaro, competed in a race at the Slovakia Ring in a Lamborghini last weekend. The Czech driver had a spectacular accident at the start, somersaulting sideways several times but was uninjured. "My knee was the only thing that hurt afterwards that day, as it hit the steering column. Fortunately, Reiter Engineering have built a very safe and solid car. The chassis needs replacing, but the engine and transmission were completely intact and suffered no damage." Enge is back racing in the Camaro in the Eifel.

- One driver returns to the cockpit at the Nürburgring, as another one lines up for the first time. While Christer Jöns is back at the side of Markus Winkelhock for the first time since Zandvoort in the #12 Audi R8 LMS ultra fielded by Prosperia C Abt Racing, ex-DTM driver Renger van der Zande will make his debut in the # 26 HTP Motorsport Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG.

- The #6 Farnbacher Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R driven by Philipp Frommenwiler and Sebastian Asch will have a new, matt-black livery at the Nürburgring. The reason for the fresh look is that Frommenwiler now has a new sponsor, Gloryfy, who produce sunglasses. Frommenwiler will support the Austrian sunglasses manufacturer as a brand ambassador with immediate effect, joining the ranks of MotoGP professional Stefan Bradl and DTM driver Timo Scheider: "It´s great to represent Gloryfy along with my fellow racing drivers and to be one of their brand ambassadors," said the Porsche driver.

- A special extra treat is in store for fans arriving early at the Nürburgring. A limited number of tickets granting access to the grid will be available at the ticket office.

- The ADAC GT Masters will be lining up for the ninth time at the Nürburgring but will utilise the 3.629 km Formula 1 sprint track that includes the NGK chicane for the first time. This short version of the Nürburgring circuit should produce the lowest average speed of any circuit on the calendar. The pace will drop by around three seconds thanks to the incusion of the slower NGK chicane.
