ADAC GT Masters·8.8.2014

ADAC GT Masters: Notes from the Slovakia Ring: News from the paddock before the start of the second half of the season

- Three new drivers are lining up for the first time in the ADAC GT Masters race at the Slovakia Ring. Mathias Lauda (#27 HTP Motorsport, Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG), Niki Mayr-Melnhof (#12 Prosperia C Abt Racing, Audi R8 LMS ultra) and Porsche junior Alex Riberas (#5 Farnbacher Racing, Porsche 911 GT3 R) will make their debut in the Super Sports Car League in Slovakia. Andreas Simonsen will be racing a Callaway Corvette for the first time along with Toni Seiler this weekend. His is a familiar face in the ADAC GT Masters, though, since he has already had drives with Audi and Mercedes-Benz.

- TONINO Team Herberth will field only two Porsche 911 GT3 Rs in the race at the Slovakia Ring. On Thursday, the Porsche team withdrew the car bearing start number #8 driven by Robert Renauer and Norbert Siedler from the event in Slovakia. Robert Renauer will partner leader in the Gentlemen standings Herbert Handlos in car #7. Dominic Jöst and Florian Scholze, who is back after missing a race, will share the #9 TONINO/Herberth Porsche.

- The ADAC GT Masters team used practice on Thursday to prepare for the weekend at the Slovakia Ring.

- 'Warming up'. None of the drivers need to warm up at the Slovakia Ring. According to the weather forecast, Friday and Sunday will bring plenty of sunshine and temperatures nudging 30 degrees.

- The artificial chicane built from stacks of tyres on the back straight has been removed this year, as the crest that subsequently follows has been levelled off.

- The Slovakia Ring is the fastest circuit on the ADAC GT Masters calendar. The average speed around the 5.922 km track is in excess of 175 km/h, making the Slovakia Ring faster than the Red Bull Ring, where Daniel Keilwitz (Callaway Corvette) set a lap average of 172.5 km/h in qualifying this June.

- Grasser Racing are lining up at the Slovakia Ring with the Lamborghini Gallardo FL2 for their second guest drive of the 2014 season. Gerhard Tweraser and Tomas Pivoda, who spent four weekends racing a Porsche last year, will drive the team's Lamborghini in Slovakia.

- A change in the rules regarding 'pit stop penalty' is to be implemented, starting with this race at the Slovakia Ring. The time penalty imposed in the race when the mandatory pit stop has not been completed will now no longer be served in the Penalty Box at the pit lane entrance but during a mandatory pit stop in front of the team's pit stop station (ADAC GT Masters Bulletin 08/2014).

- Farnbacher Porsche driver Nathan Morcom's summer break in his native Australia was very different to that of his European team-mates. Morcom went snowboarding and skating as it's winter down under in the southern hemisphere.

- MRS GT Racing and GW IT Racing Team Schütz Motorsport have two irons in the fire this weekend. Both teams will be fielding entries in Porsche Clubsport at Oschersleben as well as lining up for the second half of the ADAC GT Masters season.
