Former ADAC GT Masters champion Sebastian Asch is back in a Porsche after two seasons' absence, the first in a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 and the second in an Audi R8 LMS ultra. The 27-year-old from Ammerbuch (Baden-Württemberg) has left MS RACING to join Farnbacher Racing and will be partnering Philipp Frommenwiler from Kreuzlingen (Switzerland) who is about to contest his second season in the Super Sports Car League.
"Having a Porsche to drive, Philipp as a co-driver and Farnbacher Racing as my team amounts to a terrific package," says Asch confidently. "Farnbacher have the backing of a thoroughbred motor racing family. As I work at Porsche and already have two years' experience of driving a 911 in the ADAC GT Masters, I have all the right credentials."
The son of touring car legend Roland Asch and winner of three previous ADAC GT Masters races will not have to go through a lengthy period of adapting to the 500bhp Porsche 911 GT3 R fielded by Farnbacher Racing either, having driven a 911 on the North Loop of the Nürburgring and in various international endurance races over the past two years: "Earlier this year, I drove a Porsche in the 24 Hours of Dubai, and we even held the lead for some time. Unfortunately, we had to retire from the race, but after our good performance there, I knew that I wanted to challenge for this year's ADAC GT Masters in a Porsche."
Now one of the three most senior drivers in the ADAC GT Masters, Asch has been making preparations for the upcoming season with his new team-mate, Philipp Frommenwiler: "During the winter, Philipp came up with the idea of us sharing a cockpit. I was already impressed by his strong showing last year in the ADAC GT Masters. We then spoke with Horst Farnbacher, and it didn't take long to come to an agreement. I have a lot of experience driving Porsches, Philipp was very fast in the 2013 season, and Horst Farnbacher plus Porsche is a proven combination. I would therefore say that the prospects for the season are very promising."
After a difficult 2013 with Audi, Asch wants to be in contention for the title again this time round: "The campaign last year did not go all that well. The Audi is a good car, and I'm convinced that MS RACING with their R8s will be front-runners in their second season, and that they will certainly provide tough competition for us. However, I feel that the 911 is more my style. As a car, the 911 is a perfect fit for me. And the fact that I work at Porsche also makes a difference. I've already had success in 2010 and 2011 driving a Porsche in the ADAC GT Masters, and the aerodynamics update from last year has given the 911 a lot more downforce, making it a superb car all round. Things didn't work out last year in my attempt to defend the title, so I'll just have to try a bit harder to win a second one this year. After all, a title win for Porsche in the ADAC GT Masters is long overdue."
