Tight at the top in the second free practice session of the ADAC GT Masters, with an Audi R8 LMS ultra leading the pack: Fabian Hamprecht and Nicki Thiim in a Prosperia C Abt Racing Audi were fastest in the afternoon free practice session for the second race weekend of the 2014 ADAC GT Masters at Zandvoort.
In sunny but blustery conditions, the Audi duo set the fastest time among the North Sea dunes, with 15 other supercars all within one second. A mere 0.049 seconds behind the R8 were Sebastian Asch and Philipp Frommenwiler who had led at the halfway point of the 60-minute session in their Farnbacher Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R.
The Porsche pairing were first ousted by Kelvin van der Linde in a Prosperia C Abt Audi R8 LMS ultra and then by Maximilian Götz in an H.T.P. Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 before Hamprecht and Thiim put in the fastest lap time of the afternoon.
The BKK Mobil Oil Zakspeed partnership of Luca Ludwig and Alon Day continued their fine run from the morning when they were fastest by placing their Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG third in the timesheets ahead of the Audi R8 LMS ultra driven by the two Maximilians, Buhk and Götz.
Kelvin van der Linde and René Rast (Prosperia C Abt Racing), who currently top the championship table after their victory at the season opener at Oschersleben, were sixth fastest in FP2 ahead of Claudia Hürtgen and Dominik Baumann in a Pixum Team Schubert BMW Z4 GT3.
The quickest of the Corvettes was driven by David Jahn and Sven Barth (RWT Racing Team) ahead of Daniel Keilwitz and Andreas Wirth (Callaway Competition), finishing the afternoon eighth and ninth respectively.
Heinz-Harald Frentzen and Luca Stolz in an H.T.P. Mercedes- Benz SLS AMG GT3 missed out on the Top Ten, ending the second session in eleventh place and 0.094 seconds adrift of Robert Renauer and Norbert Siedler in a TONINO Team Herberth Porsche 911 GT3 R.
