The popular GT3 class, as defined by the world motorsport governing body FIA and with which the ADAC GT Masters complies, welcomes a new arrival next year. Cadillac of the USA has finished developing its new ATS-V.R GT3 and will be officially unveiling it at the Los Angeles Auto Show next week. The Cadillac GT3 model will be presented simultaneously with the top version of the mid-range coupé, the ATS-V. The new Cadillac is the third GT3 racer from the General Motors Group after the privately developed Callaway Corvette Z06.R GT3 and Sareni Chevrolet Camaro GT. It is, however, the first GT3 to have been commissioned by General Motors, the contract having gone to racing specialists Pratt & Miller in Michigan.
The Cadillac is the first American sports car in the GT3 class that is not powered by a high-capacity classic V8 engine. Under the bonnet is a 3.6-litre twin-turbo V6 which, according the manufacturer´s specifications, pumps out around 600 horsepower. The gearbox, which is operated by paddles on the steering wheel, is mounted on the rear axle in transaxial design, thereby placing 51% of the vehicle weight on the rear axle.
The Cadillac ATS-V.R GT3 will be entered exclusively in next year´s Pirelli World Challenge in North America. From 2016 onwards, Cadillac plans to offer the new GT3 car to customers around the world, which means that we could be seeing it in the ADAC GT Masters.
