Collection for Simonsen fund concluded: ADAC GT Masters drivers and teams played their part in fundraising

Fundraising for the family of the late Danish racing driver Allan Simonsen was successfully brought to a close at the end of January; Allan used to line up in the ADAC GT Masters and suffered a fatal accident at Le Mans/France last June. The campaign, set up by the Danish Motor Sports Association (DASU), raised 311,753 euros in all. Many ADAC GT Masters drivers and teams contributed.

The collection was handed over by His Royal Highness Prince Joachim at the Danish Motorsport awards ceremony that took place at the end of January in Copenhagen. Simonsen´s partner Carina Lundby Hansen and daughter Mie-Mai received equal shares. Carl Christian Hansen, former president of the Danish Automobile Sports Union (DASU) paid an emotional tribute to Simonsen: "Allan was a safe, talented and reliable driver. After winning the 1999 Formula Ford championship in Denmark, he moved abroad, first to England and then to Australia, where he built up an impressive career. Allan knew he was taking part in a dangerous sport, but motor racing was his life, his profession. It gave him his identity, and he loved the sport."

The DASU thanked in particular all the ADAC GT Masters drivers and teams and ADAC Motorsport for their support in raising donations.
