Comments after qualifying: Observations from the paddock

Kelvin van der Linde (#10 Prosperia C Abt Racing, Audi R8 LMS ultra), pole position for Race 1: "We had a great free practice and the team has supplied me with an excellent car for qualifying. René took our Audi to pole position for the second race too, so the prospects for the next two days couldn't be better. Our Audi was strong in today's sessions, even over the distance. If we get through the first lap OK, we should have a really good race."

René Rast (#10 Prosperia C Abt Racing, Audi R8 LMS ultra), pole position for Race 2: "We can feel well satisfied. During the official tests here, we developed an excellent setup, and I managed to post a very good lap time in qualifying. And a few words of praise for my co-driver Kelvin: he's only 17, has hardly got to know the car yet, and yet he still manages to put it on pole. That's quite some achievement."

Nicki Thiim (#11 Prosperia C Abt Racing, Audi R8 LMS ultra), P3 on the grid for Race 1: "Personally, I'm well pleased. Today is only the third time I've sat in this car, and things went really well. It's all very tight, and the level of competition in this series is higher than in any other I have known. It's obvious that both the Audi and the team are very good. We've been well ahead in both qualifying sessions, and that gives us confidence for the two races."

Rahel Frey (#16 YACO Racing, Audi R8 LMS ultra), P10 for Race 1: "Our car was very good, but unfortunately we got our timing wrong. We could certainly have qualified further forward, but just before the end as I was about to improve my lap time, the session was red-flagged when one of the other drivers spun off into the gravel."

Jan Seyffarth (#23 ROWE Racing, Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3), P11 for Race 1: "We're making good progress here, but this weekend has already shown that we haven't done enough testing. Our grid positions certainly don't reflect what we're capable of. Over the past few weeks, our team has had to undertake repair work for damage sustained at the Nürburgring and in pre-testing. Consequently, we haven't been able to test to the extent that we would have wished. But we're learning more with each new session, and I'm looking forward to the race nonetheless."

Norbert Siedler (#8 TONINO Team Herberth, Porsche 911 GT3 R), P7 for Race 1: "I'm not exactly satisfied, but I can't say that I'm dissatisfied either. Qualifying was immensely close, and I'm very impressed by the level of competition. Third place on the grid for my team-mate Robert Renauer and my own P7 are a good basis for the two races."

Philip Frommenwiler (#6 Farnbacher Racing, Porsche 911 GT3 R), P7 for Race 1: "We've got absolutely no grip. I'm the only one who is remotely able to handle the car, and even then, I'm having to tread very carefully. We don't understand why we're having these difficulties, because the car hasn't undergone any changes since the tests."

Christian Engelhart (#3 GW IT Racing Team // Schütz Motorsport, Porsche 911 GT3 R), P2 for Race 1: "It's a pity that we missed out on pole, but a deficit of 0.002 seconds is neither here nor there. Last year, I also started from the front row and was already ahead going into the first corner. I'm hoping to do the same again tomorrow."
