Corvette achieved a double victory at the Nürburgring, since not only victory overall in the eleventh ADAC GT Masters of the season went to the American sports car but also the class win in the Gentlemen category. Toni Seiler drove along with Jeroen Bleekemolen (Callaway Competition) to his third win of the season, ensuring a third victory on the trot for Corvette in the Gentlemen class. Remo Lips and Lennart Marioneck in the second yellow Corvette completed the one-two victory for Callaway Competition. Leader in the Gentlemen class Herbert Handlos (TONINO Team Herberth) booked third place in the Porsche 911 GT3 R along with Alfred Renauer.
Lips took the lead in the Gentlemen class after the start from the two Porsche 911s of Florian Scholze (TONINO Team Herberth) and Anton Wossos (GW IT Racing Team, Schütz Motorsport). Wossos overtook Scholze in a scrap between the two Porsches. After the driver changeover, Alfred Renauer and Jeroen Bleekemolen put pressure on the drivers in second and third place during the second half of the race. Bleekemolen went past the three 911s to take the lead in class from Marioneck. Renauer moved Handlos´ Porsche up the field into P3.
Scholze and Dominic Jöst finally finished the race in fourth place ahead of Wossos and Wolf Nathan in P5.
Seiler told us: "I had a bit of bad luck at the start and got the wrong racing line, allowing some opponents to execute a pincer movement on me. I didn´t want to take too many risks, because I wanted to hand over the car to Jeroen in one piece. Jeroen was then very strong in the closing phases of the race."
Placed fourth in the standings, Lips has gained a lot of ground in the Gentlemen class after his double win at the Slovakia Ring and today´s P2, enabling him to reduce the deficit on Wossos/Nathan in third place: "I´m pleased that we secured P2 at the finish line. Lenny had a tough race with a lot of opponents to his rear. I got a decent start without any pressure from behind. P2 is good for my position in the Gentlemen standings."
Handlos was not prepared to take any risks in view of his situation in the Gentlemen standings. "I had some bad luck at the start and was beset from all sides. I almost had to brake to a standstill in the Mercedes arena, which cost me lots of places. It was impossible to do better than P3 today."
