GW IT Racing Team Schütz Motorsport are to challenge for the 2014 ADAC GT Masters championships in two cars. Following a tough 2013 season, the team decided that half measures would not be enough this time around. So for their third season in the ADAC GT Masters, the team managed by Christian and Stefan Schütz will be fielding not one but two Porsche 911 GT3 Rs. In Christian Engelhart and Jaap van Lagen, they have two drivers for the rebranded outfit named GW IT Racing Team // Schütz Motorsport who the rest of the field will be wary of and who can be considered genuine contenders for the title.
The second 911 will be shared by two ambitious amateurs, Antonios Wossos and Wolf Nathan, whose primary target is the Gentlemen trophy. All four drivers are to be taken very seriously by the opposition as skilled Porsche exponents.
Christian Engelhart, who is about to commence his third season with Schütz Motorsport, has many years experience of driving Porsches under his belt, having competed in the Carrera Cup and Supercup since 2008. Previously, the 27-year-old German contested various formula and touring car series.
Engelhart once again has a strong co-driver for the forthcoming season: Dutchman Jaap von Lagen (37) also counts as one of the top Porsche drivers in the one-make cups, having been active in the dedicated Porsche competitions as well as in touring car racing for several years. The highlight of his career so far was winning the 24 Hours of Barcelona in 2012. He started off in single-seater open-wheel racing.
Although Antonios Wossos from Greece and Nathan Wolf from the Netherlands are technically amateurs, their passion for motor racing is equal to that of the professionals in the team. They have also enjoyed success in the specialist Porsche cup competitions.
Schütz Motorsport are thoroughly familiar with the peculiarities and the characteristics of a Porsche. For several years, the team has been entering cars in the Porsche Sports Cup and in the DMV TCC. "After our success in 2012, the expectations are naturally high," says team boss Christian Schütz. "The field in the ADAC GT Masters has made a great leap forward, and last year, we did not achieve the results we had hoped for. Despite all of this, we have set ourselves the target of competing up front with the top teams. We are very pleased that Geyer & Weinig and GW IT have once again put their faith in us."
The two sponsor companies, GW IT-Qualitätssicherung GmbH und Geyer & Weinig EDV-Unternehmensberatung GmbH, first ventured into the Super Sports Car League in the 2012 season. GW IT is a leader in measuring and improving IT quality and, right from the start, has been putting this expertise at the disposal of the team to assist in performance optimisation, a success factor that Schütz hope will make all the difference in 2014 as they take on the bigger, long-established teams.
