Five on the trot for Handlos: Porsche man Handlos keeps racking up wins in the Gentlemen class

Much to the surprise of Herbert Handlos (TONINO Team Herberth), he found himself receiving the winner's trophy in the amateur class of the second race at the Lausitzring, thus making it five wins out of six. Following the crash that wrecked the Corvette of Toni Seiler (Callaway Competition) on the final lap, Handlos inherited the lead and steered his Porsche 911 GT3 R safely across the line to claim a fifth successive class victory. Despite the late retirement, Toni Seiler was still classified second, while Remo Lips in the other Callaway Competition Corvette claimed the remaining podium spot.

For a long time on Sunday, it looked as if the two yellow Corvettes were heading for a one-two class win. Jeroen Bleekemolen handed over to team-mate Seiler at the mandatory pit stop with the Corvette in the class lead. Handlos moved up to second after Lips spun on track and ultimately benefited from Seiler's race-terminating crash on the final lap.

Handlos: "Winning today's race was almost as miraculous as the Virgin Birth; in fact, my race was more like a quest for shelter in Bethlehem. Today's race was a difficult one, and there is no way I would have won the class by my own efforts. Against the Corvette in particular, we didn't stand a chance today. It just didn't seem to go right, and I couldn't find any sort of rhythm. My team-mate, Alfred Renauer, was fantastic today and the whole team did a great job. I really have to say a big thank-you to all of them."

This fifth win of the season has enabled to Herbert Handlos to massively increase his lead in the Gentlemen standings over second-placed Wolf Nathan und Anton Wossos (GW IT Racing Team Schütz Motorsport) who finished today's race back in fourth.

Following their accident in Race 1 at the Lausitzring, Florian Scholze and Dominic Jöst (TONINO Team Herberth) were forced to miss out on Sunday's race.
