All good things come in threes: Herbert Handlos (TONINO Team Herberth) has achieved his third victory in a row in the Gentlemen class with the Porsche 911 GT3 R. The Austrian secured a double victory on Sunday at Zandvoort and TONINO Team Herberth also achieved a perfect team performance: Florian Scholze and Dominic Jöst made success for the Bavarian-based Porsche team complete with second place, as on Saturday. Remo Lips placed third on Sunday in a Corvette (Callaway Competition).
The Corvette of Toni Seiler and Jeroen Bleekemolen (Callaway Competition) led in the Gentlemen category for the first ten laps, but Bleekemolen had to head for the pit lane in the Corvette on the eleventh lap. Seiler/Bleekemolen had been plagued by gearbox problems the previous day and now the Dutchman's race was finished. Alfred Renauer took the lead from Dominic Jöst and Remo Lips and handed the Porsche over to team-mate Handlos whilst still in the lead.
The Austrian driver then came under pressure from team-mate Florian Scholze, who was catching up rapidly. But the Porsche driver spun before Scholze was able to attack, giving Handlos the clear air he needed to achieve his third win in a row this season in the Gentlemen class.
Gentlemen class leader Handlos is now looking forward to the upcoming races after his great start to the season: "The car worked very well in today's race, but this track doesn't really suit us. Our team-mates were especially quick today, and I'm glad that Alfred is my team-mate. Now we can hardly wait for the races at the Lausitzring and at the Red Bull Ring. These are tracks that are more to our taste, and that I know well, unlike Oschersleben and Zandvoort."
Florian Scholze finished second despite a late spin: "I closed on Herbert Handlos shortly before the end of the race. Unfortunately, I spun whilst in hot pursuit. Still, it was a good day for me today despite the spin."
Dominic Jöst was satisfied after his second ADAC GT Masters weekend: "The weekend went very well for us all in all. It was hard for me at the start, though, because the windows were fogged up on the inside. I could barely see a thing. It's a shame that we had that little skid off track towards the end, otherwise the top rung on the podium in the Gentlemen class would have been ours. Maybe we can now achieve our first win at the Lausitzring."
Antonios Wossos and Wolf Nathan brought their Porsche 911 GT3 R home in fourth place. Handlos heads the Gentlemen class after four races, three points up on Jöst/Scholze. Wossos/Nathan are in third place.
