Handlos extends winning streak: Porsche man Herbert Handlos wins Gentlemen classification for fourth time in a row

The winning streak currently enjoyed by Herbert Handlos (TONINO Team Herberth) in the Gentlemen class of the ADAC GT Masters has continued in the first of two races at the Lausitzring. The 31-year-old Austrian, who shares the cockpit of his TONINO Team Herberth Porsche 911 with Alfred Renauer, claimed a fourth class win in a row. In Saturday´s race at the Lausitzring, he found himself being hunted down by a pair of Callaway Competition Corvettes: Toni Seiler partnered by Jeroen Bleekemolen finished second, while Remo Lips supported by Lennart Marioneck took the remaining podium spot.

Having posted the best qualifying time among the Gentlemen drivers, Florian Scholze´s race came to an abrupt halt on Lap 1 when the amateur driver from Leipzig was forced to retire his Porsche 911 GT3 R after a collision just 500 metres from the start line. Meanwhile, Scholze´s TONINO Herberth team-mate Handlos had got off to a trouble-free start and went into a class lead, albeit under considerable pressure from Corvette driver Remo Lips. The Swiss driver stuck hard on the heels of Handlos and eventually seized the class lead on Lap 14. Shortly after the driver changeover, Lips´s team-mate Lennart Marioneck spun the car round on track and as a result slipped back to fourth. Renauer gratefully reclaimed the lead and secured a fourth Gentlemen class win in a row for partner Handlos. "After a disappointing qualifying session, that was another good result today," said a jubilant Handlos. "At the start, I made sure I kept out of any trouble and survived the first lap OK. I then managed to drive a clean race up to the mandatory pit stop, so all in all, I´m well pleased."

Toni Seiler and Jeroen Bleekemolen fought their way back through the field after a spin by Seiler on Lap 1 to finish the race in second place, twelve seconds adrift of Handlos and Renauer. Following a difficult weekend in the Netherlands, Seiler was relieved to have secured the podium: "After experiencing a few problems with the car at Zandvoort, we´ve been able to iron a few of them out here. Apart from a spin on Lap 1, that was another good race for us."

Third place for Remo Lips and Lennart Marioneck earned them a second podium of the campaign. Nathan Wolf and Anton Wossos in a GW IT Racing Team Schütz Motorsport Porsche 911 finished fourth .
