Claudia Hürtgen and Dominik Baumann driving a BMW Z4 GT3 continue to dictate the pace in the ADAC GT Masters at the Slovakia Ring. After clocking the fastest lap in the first of two free practice sessions on Friday, the BMW co-drivers piled the pressure on the opposition by dominating the afternoon as well. With the mercury topping 30 degrees on track at midday, however, the afternoon time was slightly down on the previous session. Hürtgen and Baumann finished FP2 at the top of the timesheets, having left their assault until the last possible moment. They dislodged the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 of ex-Formula 1 star Jaime Alguersuari and Nico Bastian by a margin of 0.019 seconds. And it was not just the gap between the Top Two that was tight: the fastest 14 supercars were all within one second of each other on this 5.9km track, the longest on the ADAC GT Masters calendar.
The third-fastest time went to the Porsche 911 GT3 R of Christian Engelhart and Jaap van Lagen (GW IT Racing Team Schütz Motorsport). Engelhart skidded off track and parked his car in the gravel bed at Turn 2 half way through the session, which left the Porsche twosome as spectators for the rest of the afternoon. Engelhart wasn't the only driver to come unstuck, as the Corvette of Patrick Assenheimer and Diego Alessi (Callaway Competition) also ended up in the gravel, causing a second red flag and temporary halt to proceedings. Max Sandritter and Jens Klingmann (PIXUM Team Schubert) steered the second BMW Z4 GT3 in the field to fourth ahead of the Chevrolet Camaro driven Albert von Thurn und Taxis and Tomas Enge (Reiter Engineering) and the fastest of the Corvettes driven by David Jahn and Sven Barth (RWT Racing Team ).
Maximilian Buhk and Maximilian Götz (HTP Motorsport) came seventh in their Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3, holding off a challenge from three Audi R8 LMS ultras driven by current championship leaders Kelvin van der Linde and René Rast, by Fabian Hamprecht and Nicki Thiim (both Prosperia C Abt Racing) and by Philip Geipel and Rahel Frey (YACO Racing).
