During the 2014 season, ADAC GT Masters driver Jaap van Lagen was the world's most successful racing driver in a privately-entered Porsche. The ADAC GT Masters championship runner-up has won the 2014 Porsche Cup which has been awarded to the most successful Porsche privateer driver since 1970. 37-year-old Van Lagen is only the second Dutchman to win the Porsche Cup since Le Mans winner Gijs van Lennep's Porsche Cup victory in his debut year in 1970.
Van Lagen received the trophy on Saturday from Porsche AG Chairman of the Supervisory Board Dr Wolfgang Porsche at Porsche's Night of Champions party to mark the end of the year. In addition, Van Lagen, who racked up 5,010 points in the season that has just ended, also takes home a new Porsche 911 Carrera S worth more than 120,000 euros.
Van Lagen secured points towards his Porsche Cup win almost exclusively in the ADAC GT Masters, notching up 4,530 of his 5,010 points at the wheel of the Porsche 911 GT3 R fielded by GW IT Racing Team Schütz Motorsport. He won both races at his home circuit in Zandvoort and went on to achieve podium finishes in four more fixtures. After 2013 Porsche Cup winner Martin Ragginger, the Dutchman is the second ADAC GT Masters driver on the trot to secure most of his Porsche privateer's points in the Super Sports Car League. Nick Tandy, who is now a Porsche works driver also secured vital points in the ADAC GT Masters on the way to his Porsche Cup victory in 2012.
