ADAC GT Masters·9.5.2014

Mercedes-Benz steal a march in Zandvoort : Fastest time in practice for Luca Ludwig and Alon Day

Wind, sun and a few rain drops. Variable weather conditions marked the start of the second ADAC GT Masters race weekend of the 2014 season at Zandvoort in the Netherlands. As the ADAC GT Masters returned to the Netherlands, Luca Ludwig and Alon Day posted fastest time in the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 (BKK Mobil Oil Zakspeed) at the 4.3 km ex-Formula 1 track in the North Sea dunes during morning practice. With a best time in the end of 1:38.987 minutes, the Mercedes pair were 0.403 seconds up on the Audi R8 LMS ultra (Prosperia C Abt Racing) in which Markus Winkelhock is lining up for the first time this weekend with his team-mate from last year, Christer Jöns. The Mercedes-Benz and Audi were followed home by two Porsche 911 GT3s with Robert Renauer/Norbert Siedler (TONINO Team Herberth) and Kévin Estre/Jaap van Lagen (GW IT Racing Team // Schütz Motorsport).

Audi made a strong impression in the first 60-minute practice session, as light rain fell briefly 25 minutes into the session. Overall, four of the five R8 LMS ultras in the line-up prepared by three different teams finished in the top ten. Florian Stoll and Daniel Dobitsch (kfzteile24 APR Motorsport) were fifth, Rahel Frey/Philip Geipel (YACO Racing) were seventh and Fabian Hamprecht/Nicki Thiim (Prosperia C Abt Racing) finished eighth behind the Porsche 911 GT3 R driven by Philipp Frommenwiler/Sebastian Asch (Farnbacher Racing).

The fastest Corvette Z06.R (Callaway Competition) of defending champion Daniel Keilwitz and Andreas Wirth was ninth, whilst Maximilian Buhk and Maximilian Götz placed tenth in first practice in the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 (HTP Motorsport).

Another best time for Mercedes-Benz in test session

Mercedes-Benz were ahead not only in the first practice session but also in a 45-minute test session held during the morning before FP1 got under way. Maximilian Buhk/Maximilian Götz in the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 finished ahead of the BMW Z4 GT3 driven by Max Sandritter/Jens Klingmann (PIXUM Team Schubert) and the Porsche 911 GT3 R of Renauer/Siedler.

Scholze/Jöst quickest in Gentlemen practice

Porsche, Corvette, then Corvette yet again was how the cars finished the Gentlemen training session, which is to be staged after first practice during the 2014 season. Florian Scholze/Dominic Jöst (TONINO Team Herberth), who top the Gentlemen standings after the first ADAC GT Masters weekend along with team-mate Herbert Handlos, posted best time in the Porsche 911 GT3 R. The Corvette (Callaway Competition) of Remo Lips and Toni Seiler came home behind the Porsche at the end of the 30-minute Gentlemen practice session.
