ADAC GT Masters·15.8.2014

Notes from the Slovakia Ring: Bits and pieces from the ADAC GT Masters at the Slovakia Ring

- Small change, major difference: Last year, an artificial chicane made from stacks of tyres was used to slow the pace of cars in order to avoid vehicles taking off over a crest that immediately followed the second turn. The crest was reduced in height during the spring, making the chicane superfluous. Cars went considerably faster this year around the 5.922 km Slovakia Ring as a result. In the quali, Jens Klingman (PIXUM Team Schubert BMW Z4 GT3) beat the qualifying record set last year by Frank Kechele (Lambda Performance Ford GT) by two seconds.

- The most successful super sportscars in the ADAC GT Masters come from Heilbronn. The win secured by Andreas Wirth and Daniel Kielwitz was the 19th victory for the Z06.R Corvette GT3 built in Leingarten. Thus, the American sports car drew even with the Audi R8 LMS, which also has 19 ADAC GT Masters race victories to its name. The R8 LMS is constructed in Heilbronn-Biberach, just a few kilometres away from Callaway Competition's headquarters in Leingarten, a suburb of Heilbronn.

- After the victory at the Slovakia Ring together with Christopher Haase, Daniel Keilwitz is the most successful driver in the ADAC GT Masters in terms of wins. 2007 champion Haase and current title holder Keilwitz have each won eleven races. Interesting fact: Both drivers have not only achieved the same number of wins but have also had the same number of starts (66).

- Lead in the standings on special anniversary: The second race at the Slovakia Ring was the 50th start in the ADAC GT Masters for Claudia Hürtgen. To mark the anniversary, the most successful lady driver in the ADAC GT Masters took over the lead in the standings along with Dominik Baumann.

- Hot temperatures, bored mechanics and a water tap in front of the pits, a combination that led to a water fight on Saturday evening in the paddock at TONINO Team Herberth. Everyone got very wet and a number of innocent bystanders also got a soaking.

- Robert Renauer completed starts 60 and 61 in the ADAC GT Masters at the Slovakia Ring, which meant that the Porsche driver entered the Top Ten of drivers with the most starts in the Super Sports Car League. Renauer is one race up on Diego Alessi and Maximilian Götz, who tackled races 59 and 60 in Slovakia.

- Jaap van Lagen, ranked second in the standings in the Porsche 911 GT3 R fielded by GW IT Racing Schütz Motorsport, will have a guest drive in the Porsche Carrera Cup this weekend. He will line up at the Nürburgring for some buddies from the ADAC GT Masters, namely MRS GT Racing, led by team boss Karsten Molitor.

- Audi driver Kelvin van der Linde will be making his first acquaintance with a DTM car. This weekend, the ADAC GT Masters shooting star from South Africa will drive an Audi race taxi for the first time at the Nürburgring DTM event.

- The night slumbers of the ADAC GT Masters logistics team, who stopped over at the Slovakia Ring until Monday, was disturbed in the early hours of Monday morning at 01:45 am. The hotel at the racetrack was evacuated when the fire alarm went off. It was a false alarm, and everyone went back to bed after ten minutes outside taking the night air.
