ADAC GT Masters champion René Rast's dream season has been made complete with the news of another big chance with Audi. Next year, Rast will fight for victory overall in an Audi R18 e-tron quattro at the 24-Hours of Le Mans (June 14th/15th, 2015), the world's most important endurance race. The Audi driver will race one of three Audi LMP1 prototypes at Le Mans and also contest the 6-Hours of Spa Francorchamps on May 2nd in preparation for the long distance classic in western France. Rast's team-mates for the two outings in the FIA WEC world sportscar championship will be former DTM driver Filipe Albuquerque and Marco Bonanomi. "My biggest dream is being realised," said Rast on Wednesday when Audi confirmed his drive in the R18 e-tron quattro at the end-of-year celebrations in Neckarsulm.
Rast had a perfect season in 2014. He won the ADAC GT Masters drivers' standings at the wheel of an Audi R8 LMS ultra along with Kelvin van der Linde and also took the Audi to victory overall in the ADAC Zurich 24-hour race at the Nürburgring and in the 24-Hours of Spa-Francorchamps. On his debut in last year's 24-Hours of Le Mans, he placed fourth in class in an LMP2 prototype prepared by the team of rally icon Sébastien Loeb.
