Van Lagen in hot pursuit of van der Linde/Rast: Championship leaders set fastest time in FP2

The second free practice session for the ADAC GT Masters finale at Hockenheim took place under bright blue skies and a pleasant temperature of 24 degrees. The result mimicked the current championship standings, with current leaders Kelvin van der Linde and René Rast in a Prosperia C Abt Audi R8 LMS ultra setting a fastest lap of 01:40.685 minutes, just 0.036 seconds ahead of their closest rival in the title race Jaap van Lagen, who shares the cockpit of a GW IT Racing Team Schütz Motorsport Porsche with Christian Engelhart. And the excitement was by no means confined to the front-runners, as the fastest 21 of the 25 supercars in the field were separated by only one second.

The HTP Motorsport Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 driven by Luca Stolz and Maximilian Götz occupied the top spot for most of Friday´s second session before the Audi and Porsche of the leading group moved up to P1 and P2 in the closing ten minutes. Stolz and Götz hung on to third ahead of another Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, this one driven by the ROWE Racing duo of Nico Bastian and Jaime Alguersuari. Fifth place went to the Callaway Competition Corvette Z06.R of Andreas Wirth and Daniel Keilwitz, who had topped the timesheets in the morning. Claudia Hürtgen and Dominik Baumann in a Pixum Team Schubert BMW Z4 GT3 – still in with a mathematical chance of securing the title on this final weekend – were sixth fastest ahead of the BKK MOBIL OIL Zakspeed Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG driven by Luca Ludwig and Harald Schlegelmilch

Sebastian Asch and Philip Frommenwiler in a Farnbacher Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R were in P8, the TONINO Herberth Porsche of Robert Renauer and Martin Ragginger was in ninth and the Top Ten was completed by the Callaway Competition Corvette of Patrick Assenheimer and Diego Alessi.
