One of the most successful super sports cars in the history of the ADAC GT Masters is getting a facelift. Reiter Engineering, two-time winners of the ADAC GT Masters drivers' and team champions, are undertaking another brilliant step in the development of the successful Italian mid-engine Lamborghini Gallardo sports car for 2015. "Just like in the aviation industry, we are relying on clearly manageable evolutionary steps in the vehicle's development and not making any revolutionary changes," said Hans Reiter about the update.
The Lamborghini Gallardo R-EX joins the line-up next year. The new suffix EX stands for 'extenso' and designates a wide-bodied version. New wishbones increase the track width on the new Lamborghini by 13 cm to 2050 mm, contributing to a significant improvement in handling. The Gallardo has grown so much in width that, as a consequence, the aluminium side panels at the rear have been replaced with carbon fibre wheel-arches. Reiter have not left the V10 engine untouched either. An improved torque curve has been achieved through the use of racing camshafts. At the same time, new Mahle pistons have reduced fuel consumption and improved the engine's robustness. Reiter: "Reliability and durability are number one priorities. Consequently, none of the Gallardo engines developed by Reiter Engineering since 2012 have shown signs of damage."
New headlights and tail-lights and the Gallardo's much broader carbon-fibre rear add to the car's more aggressive stance. The sound of the Gallardo's V10 engine was particularly important to Reiter Engineering. "The surprising and at the same time overwhelming reception given to our SaReNi Camaro GT3 has shown that a great sound and aggressive look are essential for a GT race car, at least as far as motor racing fans are concerned," said Hans Reiter. "The REITER Gallardo EXTENSO must and will bring these characteristics more to the fore, which is why the development of the right sound was up there at the top of the list of specs next to the visual package."
Lower maintenance costs were also important to Reiter in the car's development. "I maintain that we can offer a very sensible GT3 car with the current Gallardo FL2 as far as operating costs, driveability, service and durability go while still delivering top performance. We didn't want to forego those attributes but improve them even more and rekindle emotions as well."
Ten Reiter Lamborghini Gallardo R-EX racing cars will be delivered to customers, finished in CARBON - BLACK or TITANIUM - GREY, according to customer requirements. With the exception of the aluminium doors and roof skin, exclusive CARBON - BLACK covers the entire outer skin with a fine carbon-fibre covering. The TITANIUM - GREY captivates with the aggressive military look typical of Lamborghini. The car costs 248,000 euros excluding VAT and includes a 24-hour endurance racing kit.
Since 2007, Lamborghini Gallardos developed by Reiter Engineering have achieved 21 victories in the ADAC GT Masters. In 2007 and 2010, the Bavarian team won the drivers' championship and the team title in 2007 and 2008.
