ADAC GT Masters: Comments after the race: What the drivers had to say after Race 1 at the Lausitzring

Dominik Baumann (#80 BMW Sports Trophy Team Schubert, BMW Z4 GT3), winner: "We were the first team to switch drivers today, which was the key to victory for us. A Mercedes-Benz held us up to begin with. Jens came out into clean air after the changeover, allowing him to push on and so take the lead."

Jens Klingmann (#80 BMW Sports Trophy Team Schubert, BMW Z4 GT3), winner: "Our car was extremely good after the pit stop, but we began to lose traction towards the end. I was pleased that I already had a solid lead by that time. In the first half of the race, it didn't look like we were in with a chance of victory, because we were back in fourth place. But we then made an early pit stop, and I had the job of pushing hard for two laps to be in first place after the round of pit stops. And it worked."

Hari Proczyk (#42 HP Racing, Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3), second: "We've made progress this weekend, step by step. In today's race, we simply had a good car. When a car is good, even a granddad like me can put in a decent drive. The race was perfect for us. I'm so pleased with my guys, some of whom still have relatively little experience but do an extremely good job anyway."

Andreas Simonsen (#42 HP Racing, Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3), second: "In my stint, I was close behind Uwe Alzen. After the pit stop, I forgot to activate the traction control. This meant I temporarily lost contact, but I then succeeded in closing the gap again. Yesterday, we had some trouble finding the right setup, but in the race today, it was brilliant. I saw that Uwe was having some problems with his rear tyres, and I knew that I really had only one chance for an attack. I then took it very late on."

Claudia Hürtgen (#19 BMW Sports Trophy Team Schubert, BMW Z4 GT3), third: "That was an exciting race; I was sweating it out with Uwe. He did everything right for 15 minutes, but unfortunately the one-two victory for Schubert today was not meant to be. This is the first podium I've shared with Uwe. We've recently been steadily raising our game. We aim to continue in that direction, so let's see where we come out."

Uwe Alzen (#19 BMW Sports Trophy Team Schubert, BMW Z4 GT3), third: "I accept the blame for missing out on second place, because I didn't lose it on the last corner but rather on the last lap. Losing a position on the final turn is the maximum penalty for a driver; I must have let my concentration lapse. But this has been a wake-up call - I'm not going to let that happen again. All the same, I'm glad that both cars had a podium finish."

Daniel Dobitsch (#100 kfzteile24 MS RACING, Audi R8 LMS ultra), DNF: "Unfortunately, our gearbox let us down. While I was sitting in the cockpit, the temperature was already critical, and when it was Edward's turn, the car wouldn't go anywhere. A shame really, because I was slightly faster than Ragginger on the first few laps but couldn't get past. A podium finish was on the cards today, so this retirement is especially bitter."

Klaus Bachler (#36 GW IT Racing Team Schütz Motorsport, Porsche 911 GT3 R): "We didn't have any extra weight in the car, we were the only car in the Top Ten to have new wheels, and we started from pole. When you finish only fifth under these circumstances, there's not really a lot you can say."

Jakub Knoll (#12 Senkyr Motorsport, BMW Z4 GT3), winner in Gentlemen class: "With all the confusion and the interruption on the first lap, I didn't spend all that long in the car, so from that aspect, it wasn't all that tiring. I had no problems in the initial phase, but my pace was not very good. But as I only had a brief stint in the car, we didn't lose much time. After that, Lenny was great and he secured the victory for us."

Remo Lips (#13 RWT Racing Team, Corvette Z06.R GT3), second in Gentlemen class: "The opening phase of the race went well for us, but at the restart, I was unable to get the engine going again. We lost a lot of time at the pit stop, and unfortunately we missed out on the class victory on the final lap. But tomorrow we have a new opportunity, and then we will win."

Andreas Weishaupt (#3 C.Abt Racing, Audi R8 LMS ultra), third in Gentlemen class: "I'm not satisfied; various things were less than optimum. It started yesterday when we had to replace the engine. In the race, I had bad luck again when I skidded on an oil patch. Then unfortunately, we had an annoying drive-through penalty; we need to see exactly what happened there. It was extremely hot, and the car suffered badly under these conditions; the warning lights kept flashing. The conditions this weekend are a challenge for everyone."
