ADAC GT Masters: Comments after the race: What the drivers had to say after the penultimate race of the season in Hockenheim

Philip Geipel (#16 YACO Racing, Audi R8 LMS ultra), Winner: "What a great feeling! Victory at last! Well done Rahel. She was brilliant. Another car made her spin at the first start, which bent a rear tie rod, and we had to fix it temporarily. It's not easy, keeping your nerve in such a situation. It was all down to Rahel and her performance."

Rahel Frey (#16 YACO Racing, Audi R8 LMS ultra), Winner: "This win is simply great. Good luck and bad were close bedfellows today. Another car caused us to spin at the start and we then benefited from the red flag, as we were able to reclaim our grid position. Subsequently in the race, we were so fast all the time that our opponents had no chance to attack us. I was determined to stay out in front, so that no one could get close to me. This was a great reward for all the team's hard work."

Clemens Schmid (#8 Bentley Team HTP, Bentley Continental GT3): "The first attempt at getting under way was just crazy. I'm pleased I got the car safely through the first turn. Then I had a fair fight with Bruno Spengler, but I think the only way to get past a DTM champion is with brute force and ignorance, and it was not worth it. We then saw our chance to utilise pit stop tactics to good effect, and the plan worked."

Stefan Wackerbauer (#1 C.Abt Racing, Audi R8 LMS ultra): "It was an action-packed race, in which there was no opportunity to take a breather. I moved up a couple of positions straightaway on the restart. The driver changeover then went well, and that enabled us to move forwards once again. I'm pleased with this result for the whole team."

Kelvin van der Linde (#1 C.Abt Racing, Audi R8 LMS ultra), third: "The Mercedes was unlucky today, but when you find yourself in such a situation in the title fight, then you should perhaps take a more defensive line. We'll certainly see a great race tomorrow, which is super for the series. I had a good race, our strategy was perfect, and we were able to overtake Baumann's BMW in the pits. We then defended third place very well and there was no reason to risk too much by attacking the Bentley."

Luca Ludwig (#21 Team Zakspeed, Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3), DNF: "We'll be champions tomorrow."

Dominik Baumann (#80 BMW Sports Trophy Team Schubert, BMW Z4 GT3); fourth: "The race was action-packed, as expected. We kept out of trouble at the start, and then Bruno drove a super stint. So far, I'm happy and nothing is decided yet. As far as we're concerned, it will be tough tomorrow, but we're happy today. Bruno has turned in a superb performance so far. We had some bad luck with the pit stop, but that's just racing. Tomorrow, we'll step on the gas again."

Marc Gassner (#23 MRS GT-Racing, Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3), Winner, Gentlemen class: "It was an action-packed race. The car took several knocks on the first start, which caused some damage. Then, the underbody worked loose. There were strong vibrations and heavy understeer, plus, the brakes were spongy. We can be satisfied with the result, given the circumstances."

Andreas Weishaupt (#3 C.Abt Racing, Audi R8 LMS ultra), second, Gentlemen class: "We scored points again today, and that was important. We will continue our fight for the title tomorrow. The situation after the start was scary to begin with, but I made it through the first lap. Christer subsequently put up a great fight, but unfortunately, it wasn't enough for first place in the end."

Michael Joos (#12 Senkyr Motorsport, BMW Z4 GT3), third, Gentlemen class: "My first race in the ADAC GT Masters was very interesting. I've concentrated this weekend on posting as many kilometres as possible. The team has supported me brilliantly. I'm not quite satisfied with my performance, but it was not all that bad for my first start."
