ADAC GT Masters: Comments on qualifying: What the drivers had to say after the first qualifying session of the season

Luca Stolz (#7 Bentley Team HTP, Bentley Continental GT3), pole position for Race 1: "It's hard to imagine a more perfect start to the season to have claimed both pole positions and thus have an open road in both races. We have done a lot right in our preparations for the season; we've worked hard and the net result is P1 on the grid. The lap was perfect in every respect. I had some luck with the traffic and also with the slipstream. We're on pole position for both races, but we weren't all that dominant, because the gaps at the top are extremely narrow."

Jeroen Bleekemolen (#7 Bentley Team HTP, Bentley Continental GT3), pole position for Race 2: "My team-mate Luca already did a perfect job in Q1, and then I also put in a perfect lap. I wasn't expecting pole position here, because the Bentley is still very new to me and it was by no means easy in free practice today. I didn't allow myself to make any mistakes in qualifying and did exactly what was needed here to take pole. Qualifying was very competitive; in the end, there were five cars within 0.2 seconds of each other. That's highly enjoyable and it also makes this series what it is. As for the races, despite the double pole it's not going to be easy because we don't yet know what the weather is for this weekend."

Clemens Schmid (#8 Bentley Team HTP, Bentley Continental GT3), grid position 9, Race 2: "My qualifying was quite OK. I think that free practice may have confused us about the right setup. For qualifying, we may have chosen a setup that was slightly too soft, and that cost us the vital one or two tenths in qualifying."

Nicki Thiim (# 2 C.Abt Racing, Audi R8 LMS ultra), grid position 2, Race 2: "I'm satisfied; it went better than expected and I was the fastest Audi driver in the second qualifying session. After free practice, I didn't think we would be so near to the front. Row 1 on Sunday's grid is excellent. Let's hope I have better luck at the start than I did last year here at Oschersleben."

Luca Ludwig (#21 Team Zakspeed, Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3), grid position 3, Race 2: "Pole might have been a possibility today. Unfortunately, I made a small mistake that ultimately cost me the position. Even so, I am quite satisfied, because after free practice, we didn't expect to be so near to the front. We risked some changes for qualifying, which paid off."

Daniel Keilwitz (#66 Callaway Competition, Corvette Z06.R GT3), grid position 4, Race 2: "Pole position certainly wasn't out of the question. The time differences in qualifying were quite small, and I wasn't far off pole. But P4 on the grid and seventh place for Andreas Wirth in the first race puts us in a promising situation for the two races."

Dominik Baumann (#80 BMW Sports Trophy Team Schubert, BMW Z4 GT3), grid position 4, Race 1: "The red flag in the first qualifying session ruined my plan, because at the time of the crash, I had just started on my hot lap. In the remaining five minutes, I then managed with an element of drama to get myself further up the starting order. In such circumstances, starting fourth is quite OK."
